To tell you the truth, this one will probably be a bit different than the last I thought. We’ll still look into application. However, I’m thinking that I don’t want to get too far away from the root. I, myself, am going through some real battles and hard choices in my life right now. I’m sure that you’ve got your own too. In all that we have seen, even from the very start of this book, we’ve been made aware of the fact that God is the measuring stick by which we must measure ourselves, our lives (manor of living), and our circumstances. He’s the only one that can reach from the beginning to the end and beyond. We often make the mistake of measuring ourselves and our lives by our circumstances and cutting God out of the picture completely. Our circumstances could last for years upon years and end in a single day. I know this personally. I once had a great love in my life. In that circumstance, I placed my hope and I could not envision a future without that love of mine. Yet, without warning, she cast me aside and all that I had placed my hope in was gone. Her love for me could not span the distance that God’s love for me can. I knew this and I still made the wrong choice to love her before God even though I had already been a child of God. I wish I had read through this book more at that time. I wish I had yielded more to instruction so that I could have made better choices. Why is it so important to make wise choices? Why not just work on a system of trying to experience everything you can? I’ll tell you why. You don’t need to get eaten alive by an alligator to know that you won’t like it. As it is that God formed us in the womb, He’s the one that wrote the code on what we are. As it is that He has redeemed us, He’s the one that wrote the instruction on who we are to be. Now, He has given us instruction on who He is and who we are in relation to Him. To function properly, we need not only know this truth. We need to also apply it! To act any other way is false and will lead to the same heartache that was experience by the writer of this book and myself.
We’ve also covered the fact that work and the reward that work brings is a gift of God and that we ought to work well in all areas of our lives and that it’s o.k. to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Even so, we have also seen that it is folly to hold on too tightly to those rewards even though they may be from God. Everything from God, in this life, has a time and a season. Those seasons pass and, in the new season, God brings fresh blossoms. So, in all of you life, relax. I know that this is tough. I’m not a control freak until the pressure is high. I know it’s easy to let things ride when there are common stakes. However, in the most heated times, even so as I was reminded by someone who was so good as to let me know, that’s when the Marine in me comes out. Not taking control of a situation going out of control is one of the toughest things for me to do. What about you? How often do we really remember that God is the beginning and the end and that He really does know what He’s doing? How often do we really try to relate to Him and find out what He thinks about a matter? I can assure you, He’s not worried. Neither is He eager to bring destruction. I’m not saying do nothing. Remember, God likes Active Faith. Make a stand, in faith, to work in righteousness and keep to it no matter the cost. If the reward comes from God, how can you possibly fail?
So, I leave the rest of the application up to you. Consider every aspect of your life and listen to see where the Holy Spirit would make improvements. Look at some of the greater consequences in your life and see what lead you to them. During that time, was your life focused upon God or your circumstances? Where is your focus now? If you say that it is on God, can you prove it? When the pressure is high, do you stand on the principles of God and can you back up your actions in faith in the Bible? Or is it the contrary, that you bend under the pressure and give in to do the work that is not of God and is therefore of Satan? For all the wisdom in the world, we still all do battle with these same things. Be faithful in small things and God will give you greater things to be faithful in. Next week, we’ll get back to the more direct method in chapter five. Also, are there any requests for the nest series of the FNS after we are done with Ecclesiastes? I’m thinking I’d like to become more topical and simply work by a week to week requested topic. What do you all think?
But Moses said to the LORD, "Since I speak with faltering lips,
why would Pharaoh listen to me?"
-- Exodus 6:30
Thank God that He uses us anyway!!!
