Something Old, Something New Part 2
Part 12 Of A Study In 2 Corinthians

Before we start, perhaps it is good that we should pray for one another. I know that not everyone knows everyone. Still, God know who we all are and it would be a real blessing for each of us if we could just take a moment to pray for one another to be faithful servants and cheerful givers of our service.

So, I said that we'd go back to boot camp in the last FNS. This one won't be as long because I want to give us some things to think and pray about. There are aspects of serving God that are quite basic to every Christian, even new and old Christians alike. Nevertheless, no matter how far we advance in maturity, when we stumble, we must first fail in the basic things so as to bring about any other failure. Like I said, this won't take long. There's not going to be an exhaustive study, just a reminder of the things we already know.

1) We are to Love God First and above all other things.

2) We worship God on His terms and not our own.

3) We are to communicate with God, that is to pray, so as to keep well centered within the supply lines of His Grace and Mercy.

4) We are to exercise what God teaches us in His Word so that we may grow in the Lord.

To fall short in any one of these areas is a devastating blow to the Faith and Service of any Christian. Sin always starts out seemingly small. A person doesn't just walk down the street and suddenly decide to rob a bank. Before this, there were other lesser sins and plenty enough thought over that big sin before it was committed. Bank robbers start out with small time heists like steeling wallets and the belongings of others. Swindlers start out by telling little white lies and eventually make it to some grand stage where they bilk hundreds, thousands, even millions out of their money. Adulterers start with a little friendly touch and an understanding ear before they ever make it to the bedroom. All these sins and more, we, even as Christians, are capable of committing. They all require small sins and a generous amount of thought. Righteousness requires obedience and prayer.

We need to stick to the Basics! We're never too good for the basics! No Christian could ever find the sin they would not commit. Stick to the basics and avoid the traps of Satan. If we love God we will keep His commandments.

In closing, pray over these things in your life. See what God would reveal.
