French man jailed in torture case
Derrar said he felt ashamed of what he had done
A French man has been jailed for 25 years for burning a teenage girl to death in a rubbish depot, in a crime which shocked the nation.
Jamal Derrar, 22, was convicted of torture and barbarity leading to unintentional death.
Outrage over Sohane's death led to a wave of feminist protest in France and the creation of a new campaign group.
Derrar was convicted of pouring petrol over Sohane in the basement depot, then approaching her with a cigarette lighter and setting her on fire.
She died later at a hospital with burns over 80% of her body.
Derrar claimed she was his former girlfriend - a claim denied by witnesses - and that he had only been trying to scare her.

On October 4, in the Parisian suburb of Vitry-sur-Seine, a 17-year-old woman named Sohane, was burned to death in an attack by 19-year-old Jamal Derrar. Derrar was taken into police custody on October 6 and was awaiting trial at year's end. Although the killing was an isolated incident, press reports and civil rights NGOs linked the incident to the "repressive atmosphere" in some suburbs dominated by immigrants from Arab countries. Some men in these suburbs reportedly intimidated women whom they perceived as breaking with social norms. The Government and NGOs have spoke out to condemn this behavior, which ranged from verbal abuse to physical assault and rape. On October 14, President Chirac announced the creation of an "independent authority" to combat all forms of discrimination, especially that against women.

In many french papers it was not reported he was a muslim, no doubt they were frightened of the backlash against muslims.
Is this the way to go on in europe to sweep it all under the carpet, to allow some muslims to bring there tribal rituals to our shores, & when these barbaric attacks against women occur, we call him a frenchman, since when do muslims consider themselves a englishman or a frechman, there alliegance is to islam, they are a muslim first, and most will tell you this.
The systematic way muslims treat women as second class women is rife around the world, the ex prime minister's daughter of malaysian, a privelaged and wealthy girl has said so herself.
Do we allow women to be treated as second class citizens in our own countries, just so we can be politically correct with muslims.
The only way to deal with a problem is to attack the root cause of the problem, which is the way muslims look at women, as puppets, & pawns in there master chess game, as we to are all becoming, as our governments & press dont even dare print cartoons, checkmate.....
