Not sure what I'm looking for, just keeping my options open I suppose.

Just looking for a free online game. Preferrably like an text-based MUD game or something, but also not sci-fi.

    Post what ya got.

try ragnarokonline.com if you haven't already

Here's a website for other MMORPGs that might be better for faster computers. http://mmohub.org/mmorpg/mmorpg/

    It's a multi user dungeon.

It's a text/ascii based world where you interact with people and things on a text level. It's like WoW, without all the pretty pictures. On good ones, the rooms are described beautifully and the interaction is faster and more intense.

Some MUD's have pretty extensive code, I used to code and build for an Ack! based MUD. It's where I met my husband, actually. We were both building areas a long time ago (more than 18 years now) and we became friends. His girlfriend at the time played the regular game on the regular port and was cheating on him with several other guys, so I killed her... repeatedly. Until all her gear was gone. He was mad at me for a long time, but we stayed friends long after they broke up. A little over 10 years ago he came to visit just to see the museums and Chicago... and he never went home. Rest is history and genetics

I've played Aardwolf, and it's okay. There are some odd cliques there, but easy enough to get by on your own until you find your way.

Clandestine was another very good mud with a good user base. I liked my time there.
