I have a friend...we'll call him Jim.

He has a forum. There was a short downtime once, and some random person (we'll call him Ed) came and decided that he would mass email all the members of the original and move them all to his own, new forum. Jim wasn't too happy, and decided to give Ed a piece of his mind. Ed changed his forum's name, gave a full apology and told everyone the truth. So for a while, it was all good.

Jim decided, after a while, to join Ed's forum, since many of Jim's friends were admins/mods there. For a short while, Jim was an admin, and he managed to fix a lot of stuff up with his admin experience. Then, one day, Jim was an admin no more, so he enquired as to why this was. Ed said that Jim was unnecessary, so he was demoted. Jim shrugged and carried on posting his advice for Ed, a first-time admin. Soon, however, Jim's posts were getting deleted and one day, Jim's username was gone. At this point, thanks to all the crap Ed had given him, Jim snapped and sent Ed a piece of his mind via email. Jim also tells his friends on Ed's forum about what's going on. Some random person (called h4x0r) hacks into Ed's forum and bans all the users except for the admins. Ed suspects it is Jim, but it isn't.

Ed turns out to be in school and his father is a Sergeant for some Police department in the UK. Ed threatens legal action against Jim, and now Jim wants to know whether or not he has actually done anything illegal and prosecutable by law.

Call a lawyer and get their advise for every country is different when it comes to laws.
