Well I finnaly decided that I should format the problem is my computer is so fucked up that for some reason task manager does not work anymore.. and it is not a uninstalled component problem.

I tried to format C:/ and it always comes up with the same error "make sure all files being used by this disk is closed and try again" or something similar to that , anyway.

I assume files are being used via background and my task manager is fucked. any ideas? thanks

yeah dude you have to use a boot disk or something. if I were to do it, I would create a startup disk and copy fdisk, format and whatever else occured to me at the time onto it. you boot from the disk, run fdisk... delete partition, run it again, make new partitions as desired.... reboot, run format.... then you have clean disk.

First, some advice. Then some good advice.

Advice:
1. Make a boot disk with FDISK and FORMAT on it.
2. Make sure you don't need anything on your HD.
3. Boot from the boot disk, and use the FORMAT command to wipe the drive.

Good Advice:
You're nowhere near ready for this - read up on the problem and/or seek a local expert.

Also, you may be able to get by with doing this:

1) Reinstall windows.
2) Defragment your HD.

I take it you're running Windows 98?

I run WinXp, what is Fdisk and bootdisk?

How would I re-install windows?

And what comes from defraging my hd.

you need help from a friend with a clue! (have a geeky friend explain all this or do it himself, you need help and online is only gonna help a little, you need hands on nerds!)

:( I'm basically an idiot.

Plus would formating my computer affect my cable networking?

Formatting your hard drive would render your computer basically inoperable until you re-install the operating system. Once you re-install you can set up your network connections.
