What's the strongest flavor enhancer?

Is it salt? MSG? or what?

There's some insanely powerful artificial sweetener, but the name escapes me.

I hear there's also Splenda (not sure if it's the same thing) that substitutes the hydoxyl groups in sucrose for chloride. But it sorta tastes nasty.

Salt will change the taste of anything.

don't eat Splenda. It'll enlarge your thyroid. and gives you cancer in large doses over a lifetime.

Hmm, I'm not sure how you mean that. Salt is a great natural flavor enhancer, but it won't "change" the flavor unless you overdo the amount of salt. Some of the best coffee in the world is made even better with the addition of just a tiny pinch of salt, but who would dump great quantities of salt into a cup of coffee?
