I recently replaced Firefox 4 with Firefox 5, without fully appreciating some limitations (which will eventually be removed). Is there any way to get back to Firefox 4?

I prefer Foxfire 3, which covers animal care, banjos and dulcimers, wild plant foods, butter churns, and ginseng...

You can download 4.1 and older versions of Firefox at sites like this: http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php

Beware! Even though WOT gives this place a good rating, anything on it could still have been infected with malware. After downloading, scan the setup file with every antivirus and spyware program you've got before opening it. As mentioned, there are other old ware providers if you want to search to see if any have an even better reputation.

We had a neighbor once who constructed one of those banjos from the Foxfire books. He used a big catfish's belly for the stretched hide that the strings vibrate. I don't know if that was one of the suggestions in the book or not, but it worked as good as any. :bugeye:

Cool! I want to make one too. I'm teaching myself old style banjo right now, it would be awesome to have an instrument that goes with it. I know in China and Japan they use the skin of a python.

I have the entire Foxfire series.

    Good stuff.

Firefox 5 here. All better except they still haven't cleaned up the tab mousewheel scrolling issue. When you browse intelligently like I and many others do, that's a pain in the ass. I'm sure they'll get it cleared up.

To get Firefox 4, or any other piece of software on earth in an earlier revision, go to oldapps.com. Every computer user on earth should have that site bookmarked. They still have Firefox .08 available for download, and every revision since.

The problem for me was that two extensions I frequently use were disabled by FF5, with no clear sign that their authors will make them compatible with that version anytime soon. Didn't wait to see if there were other issues which the OP might be referring to, but switched to Opera because both features are native to it (not installed add-ons). Since the Chromium browser is finally adding the capacity to read and save mhtml files, I may go back to it when Chrome-14 debuts in a few weeks. I'm already tired of Firefox's unreliability when it comes to its extensions working. Too bad, since FF looks better than that unnecessarily bare appearance of Chrome (I'm not referring to the latter's 'minimalism' of taking up less space on the screen, which almost all the browsers do now).

The issue for me (described in general terms by CC) was not being able to use Realplayer to capture streaming videos.

The suggesting by CC (thank you CC) earlier worked fine so I am back to Firefox 4.

Only annoyance for me at the moment is media plugins like divx dont work, but then again HTML 5's <video> tag is meant to take care of this, but I'd still like the choice.

Both of the disabled extensions that caused me to switch to a back-up browser have now become compatible with FF#5. That's one reason I didn't go back to FF#4 -- slightly easier to be alerted by the new version than to have to go to the add-on websites to periodically check on their progress. But then, I was purely lucky this time have to have the equivalent of the lost features on a back-up browser. The next time it happens...

That always happens. Just wait and they will bring out new versions of the plugins (if you're lucky

One of the messages from CC describes how to get back to Firefox 4.0.1. I used it with no problem. Next time you try to upgrade to Firefox 5, note that it does warn about which plugins are inactive. Don't install Firefox 5 until your plugin is available.

Don't forget to disable WebGL on your Firefox.

Firefox 6.0.2 is the latest. version 7 is in beta testing phase. Why not upgrade to FF6 instead of sticking with 4 or 5?

    I agree - that's where I'm at now.

I stayed with Firefox 5 because many plugins (such as cache viewer) don't work with newer versions. It's a shame they can't make newer versions that stay compatible with the prior version available plugins. I'm also wondering why with each version Firefox seems to get more sluggish.
