The full release is out today. What are your views? Also what addon do you use?

I have only just downloaded it but first impressions are good and it seems v fast.

The only downside so far is that it will not work with my Skype addon :(

I've been using it since the betas, it's pretty nice. I like how you can type in a phrase instead of an exact URL in the address bar and find what you're looking for. The new history is nice too.

Full release is out? I thought the "release candidate" was out, not the full version?

The full version is supposed to come out at the end of June according to the wiki

Ah, so whats the difference between the release candidate (your right it is RC1) and the full?

Mostly bugfixes. The release candidate is meant for testing.

Hasn't this been a feature of all browsers (yes, even IE!!!) for ages now, or is there something about it that you're not telling us?

I use Firefox. As of last night, it did not ask to be updated. So, me thinks, it is not ready to be used....

I like Firefox except when I deal with Hotmail or msn groups...then it does not work.

That always annoys me that MSN/Hotmail always default to IE is there anyway of stopping this happening?

I am using the addon called Opera. It makes Firefox unnecessery... :)

I'm still rocking the Opera too, now with a built in ad-blocker much like Ad-Block Plus for the Fox.

Agreed, it's annoying..

i tried out the beta for a few days but its a real resource hog compared to 2.5. id rather have the basics work at the same speed as me than have lots of handy extras i have to wait around for. ill stick with what ive got, at least until i can afford a computer that isnt 6 years old.

After a day of testing, Firefox 3 really flies. It uses a lot less memory and after a bit of tweaking - a lot more functional.

(BTW, Before i updated i exported up my bookmarks, feeds and passwords and made a list of extensions)

I have had FF3 for a month or so and despite it not being a fully release I don't think it hasn't crashed once. Where as FF2 would crash on me often. I think they have done a good job with this one.

I wonder if they have that for the iPhone Safari too?

Not so! The June 17 release is no longer considered beta. My personal dislike is the "Organize Bookmarks" got more complicated. It appears to me to be faster than FF 2.

In passing, Opera was updated a few days ago.

I have been using opera for the past few months and i love it. I gotta say, Opera 9.5 beats Firefox 3. They are both improvements, but Opera always just feels zippier than firefox. And even though I have speed dial and mouse gestures in firefox, they arent the same as in Opera.

I encourage everyone to try out Opera 9.5. I dont think you will go back after trying it. Now I want Opera 10, I can't wait.

I downoaded FF3 yesterday. Then I tried to add add-ons, and when I click on them, nothing happens. Any advice? I used FF2 before without add-ons, so I am not sure how to use them but itshould be rather simple...

I also updated Opera 9.5 yesterday....

Add on should work when loaded and thats about it. I have only installed one add on with FF3 and that is for downloads to be displayed in the FF3 screen and I have had problems with this. But I got an update for it the other day and I think it is fixed. With add ons give it a bit of time to catch up with the new version.

Hum,
one of the main reasons to use firefox is that you can add `addons` and change the browser to suit your needs.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

Just click the green `add to firefox` button, to add whatever you fancy.

BTW, one tip is to change the menu icons to small. ( view --- toolbars---customize)

Yeah, I was on that page and clicking on the links didn't work. Now with Opera it works. Will try with FF3 later again...

In ff2 when I reboot it would always ask me if I wanted to restore all the pages loaded before the shutdown. It doesn't do this anymore do I have to change a setting? I can't find it any ideas?

invert_nexus

It's on the main options tab. The scrollbox that asks you what to do when Firefox starts. Tell it to load tabs from last time.

Difficult to find.

Except it doesn't seem to work...

OK, now the add-ons work. Honestly I only care for a few, but they are really good. The best is PicLens although I have problem with the audio in several pictures, maybe some set ups are wrong...

I will be testing FF3 tomorrow more and give a honest feedback.

invert_nexus

Figured it out. Something wasn't working with the options. I had to go and manually configure it in about:config.
I set browser.sessionstore.enabled to true. For some reason it wasn't working.
It might be because I was using tab mix plus with Firefox 2 and it had locked the setting or something.

invert_nexus

I'm not liking the (lack of) options...

invert_nexus

Well, that's interesting. I tend to enlarge text on pages because I don't sit close to my monitor. Enlarging text now enlarges pics as well...
Wonder if it enlarges video?
...
Nope. Looks like video (flv anyway) stays the same size. Too bad, that would be kinda cool.

Edit: Ah. You can set it to zoom text only in the view menu. Interesting.

Try also `toolbar buttons` to get a text enlarger/reducer

The new firefox has excellent colour profile support:
If you have a fast computer then you can switch on the firefox Colour management system
This allows images and colours to be displayed consistently across a variety of devices

Read more (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Gfx.color_management.enabled)

Type about:config into the browser address bar and scroll down to the entry called gfx.color_management.enabled.

Rightclick to Toggle it to true.

To be honest, FF3 seem to be faster than Opera 9.5, at least the page refresher works way faster on the website where I am using it. Also on Digg, I don't have to click 4 times to be able to go back, so that is also a plus...

Tip for today:
Press F11, and move your mouse to the middle and to then to the top of the screen....
