View Full Version : Firefox 1.5
Just updated, I really like it! :)
Seems to work faster, now the -back- function is instant (the page isn't reloaded), better organised options, and it works sleeker overall.
Got a new theme and extensions too.
Here's a screen shot (http://img461.imageshack.us/img461/3523/ff10sx.jpg)
Mostly using these extensions:
Deepest Sender - so I can post directly to my blogs.
Fizzle - RSS reader - so I can quickly check out my friend's blogs
Spellbound - Spell checker with many dictionaries
Adblock - Deletes internet ads
Filterset.G - downloads a new anti-ad database for Adblock every week
Fire FTP - A quick FTP client embodied in browser
Dictionary search - finds selected words in an internet dictionary
Remove It Permanently - Removes an object from a web page permanently
gTranslate - Translates any text from the most popular languages (French, German, English, Spanish, etc)
NoScript - Prevents an unauthorised javascrip from running
Session Saver - even if the browser crashes, upon restart all the pre-crash tabs are opened.

Anyone still using IE around here?
spuriousmonkey 12-20-05, 05:02 PM Every time i try to download something with 1.5 the browser crashes.
Hence i returned to Opera after not using it for a year.
Oh? :/ Weird...
I'm using the Linux tar.gz version from the Mozilla website and have no such crashes
spuriousmonkey 12-20-05, 05:14 PM I found out what to do in the help forum.
needed to delete a file from my profile.
I do not think most computer illiterates will be able to do that. I had to read the instructions twice.
Now it works again.
But I think they dropped the ball there.
What I dislike about Firefox is that it's still quite a resource hog
They need to seriously think about optimising the browser for performance.
I'm still sticking with Opera. I use Firefox whenever Opera fails to load a page. Opera has gone down in my standings since it now reloads the page when you go back and I can't seem to fix that. I liked it better when it saved the previous page to memory and gave the page instantly.
Why do you choose Opera over Firefox? Just curious.
I was a Opera user some years ago too, but Firefox extensions made me switch,
I particulary like DeepestSender, Spelbound, AdBlock and Dictionary search
spuriousmonkey 12-20-05, 06:38 PM I don't really use the extensions in Firefox so that is not a selling point.
Opera I started using because of the Tabs. And it was a lot faster (it seemed) than either IE or Netscape.
And then firefox came out. And it could get rid of the advertisements on sciforums.
But I think they have either disappeared or Opera and Firefox block them automatically because I don't see them anymore.
On the Mac at work I started off with Safari, but thought it was a bit crap. I was missing the tabs of firefox. But hoorah! firefox is also available on the Mac. So I browse with firefox now at work.
And then I got problems with the new Firefox 1.5, but the problems are solved now. I kind of got used to Opera again for the short duration I was using it. I am not sure which one I will continue to use from now on, but certainly not IE.
end rant.
leopold99 12-20-05, 06:48 PM i use firfox because i.e. has a script bug in it.
'nuff said
Hey, your Firefox looks cooler than mine. :(

Dreamwalker 12-21-05, 03:19 AM Hmm, i also use Firefox, but it seems I have to download the newest version, the one I currently use has had to suffer one attempt of browserhijacking yesterday, and one successfull hijacking. That did never happen before, so I guess mine is getting outdated. ;)
Yeah, I've been noticing a few pop-ups as of late. Prolly cause Firefox is starting to get more popular people are gonna start targetting it. :\

vslayer 12-21-05, 04:22 AM opera works for me. i like the cached load when i hit the back button, rather than having firefox which loads it again.
FF 1.5 doesn't load again
vslayer, which version of Opera do you use? I've racked my brains trying to figure out which one last had that feature in an attempt to rollback the installation. Opera just isn't the same without that function.
Edit: Nevermind. Fixed it. Forgot to up my cache capacity *slaps forehaead*
vslayer 12-21-05, 05:30 AM i used ff 1.5a for a while when i first reformatted after my last system crash(i altered my windows cd to install firefox :) ), but once i got my other harddrive back in i ditched it for opera.
Anomalous 12-21-05, 06:07 AM I use FireFox becuse there is no activeX code in it. But I miss the FullScreen Autohide toolbar feature of IE. Hope they fix that one too.
