I'm interested to see my fellow Sciforumers favourite sculptures, classic or contemporary.
I'll start the ball rolling with a couple of modern stunners:

Picasso's "Head of a Jester" - - this site has the largest picture I could find, scroll down to near the bottom:

The casting I saw is in the Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis, and is more detailed and realistic than this photo appears.

It is a "necessary" sculpture - the 2D picture does not begin to present it. It's effect comes from walking around it and comparing different views - the expression and attitude vary radically from one viewpoint to another, and the combination in one entity is the sculpture.

I don't know the artist's name, but I love this chrome piece.
It's at the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle, Washington

I am partial to Bill Dan. His sculpture is temporary, as it is subject to the motion of Earth and gravity.
If you're not familiar with his sculpture, look here.

One day as I was driving along the coastal route, I saw many of his balancing acts. They are fun to see!
They stayed in balance for a few days.

Leonardo DaVinci's Horse. He was supposed to do this for the Duke of Milan, but it never happened. They took his drawings/plans and Nina Akuma completed it.

Amazing, reminds me of the proposed horse sculpture (164 feet high) by Mark Wallinger due to be constructed here in the UK, not sure when it will happen:

Is the Bronze Age Uffington White Horse considered sculpture?

I like this one at the Midway Airport in Chicago.

Its a whole bunch of itty bitty airplanes, hung just so, to make a bird and its shadow
