They were OK but the Deep Purple were far better and had more songs that I enjoyed. When the Who started doing their rock operas they lost me. Live At The Leeds and Join Together With The Band were their best albums.

Omg you're crazy, you can't tell me that Deep Purple, Eagles, Uriah Heep, The Moody Blues, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, Canned Heat, and Billy Idol are not decent musicians.

Add in some Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, In Flames, Arch Enemy, 8 Foot Sativa, Black Sabbath, The Foo Fighters, and The Rolling Stones!

If you hate these bands then you really must be disgusted with the bands that are out there today for they either sound like shit or they copy those bands before them.

Nirvana is no rock.
I like Aerosmith and Queen.
HUH?! Grunge isn't rock anymore?

I also like Queen, Buckcherry, System of a Down, Alice in Chains, Mortiis.... And that's only English-speaking ones. I also like Unheilig, although that could be Christian rock for all I know. Oh and I just dug up Allersleen from my music folder. Darn, I have to learn other languages just to know I'm not listening to anything crappy.

The Charmer

Faith No More.

Despite my age, I'm not as fond of the music I grew up with as some people--Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, etc. I thought popular music reached its apex in the 1970s. So many genres peaked.

Psychedelic: Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream.
Art Rock: David Bowie, Mott the Hoople.
Heavy Metal: Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult.
Progressive Rock: Genesis, Renaissance.
Folk Rock: Fairport Convention, the Strawbs.
Fusion: Jean-Luc Ponty, Al DiMeola.
Singer-Songwriter: Billy Joel, John Prine.
Reggae: Bob Marley, Peter Tosh.
Country Rock: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet.
Soft Rock: The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac.

Yeah, disco and power-pop arose in the 70s, but so did punk and new wave.

There's been plenty of wonderful music, and even entire new genres, since then. But month by month, I found more tunes I loved and still love being produced in the 1970s than in any other decade.

I like quite a few of the bands already mentioned, but the Stones and CCR are the absolute greatest.

By the way, Alain, Weird Al does everything, so he could technically be considered rock.

Alternative Rock (Vintage): Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M, The Cure

Modern Alternative Rock: Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, Radiohead

Guns n' Roses
Tool
Red Hot Chili Peppers

I also like many individual songs from bands that I generally don't like. cosmictraveler, I thought I was the only one who listens to Grand Funk Railroad. I love listening to my 60s and 70s records (many of them belonged to my parents or to people I knew who were going to throw them out).

I forgot to mention the Guess Who. After I saw Burton cummings live, I progressed much faster in learning the piano because of his inspiration, now I can play his songs!

I'm stuck between the cosmictraveller and Fraggle Rocker. I'll just add Supertramp and the early Alan Parsons Project.

Cosmic, should I give a listen to Pacific Gas And Electric and Ten Wheel Drive? Is it hard rock? Southern rock? Bluesy-folky rock?

Heh, I can't really think of any bands that hasn't already been said. However, I can't believe nobody has yet to mention The Beatles. Yes, they did a lot more than just pop songs targetted towards girls (only their early stuff really was). They're the most evolutionized band ever.

I like the Beatles, but I didn't think to mention them because they aren't my all-time favorites. They are quite good, especially during their "Beatles on Drugs" era. Their greatest song was Eleanor Rigby.

Oh, and Titanguy-Alter Bridge sucks LOL!!!

True, though some Beatles ("Come Together" for instance) is more like rock. And in the old days there wasn't much of a difference anyway.

If guitar qualifies as "Rock" music:
Reich and Roll, excellent band. They play old, 19th C and early 20th C German military music with Rock instruments.
