Just kidding. They suck major. But seriously how nobody has mentioned Led Zeppelin. baumgarten 06-27-05, 03:29 PM Led Zeppelin. There, I said it. Nine Inch Nails Pink Floyd Spoon Electric Six Radiohead Just to name a few. Dreamwalker 06-27-05, 03:36 PM Motörhead Böhse Onkelz Blind Guardian In Flames Those are my topmost favorites. whitewolf 06-28-05, 05:58 PM Nirvana is no rock. I like Aerosmith and Queen. HUH?! Grunge isn't rock anymore? I also like Queen, Buckcherry, System of a Down, Alice in Chains, Mortiis.... And that's only English-speaking ones. I also like Unheilig, although that could be Christian rock for all I know. Oh and I just dug up Allersleen from my music folder. Darn, I have to learn other languages just to know I'm not listening to anything crappy. The Charmer 06-29-05, 05:48 AM Faith No More. Metallica. Anthrax. S Club 7. In that order. Avatar 06-29-05, 08:54 AM HUH?! Grunge isn't rock anymore? I also like Queen, Buckcherry, System of a Down, Alice in Chains, Mortiis.... And Mortiis is darkwave. Fraggle Rocker 07-17-05, 06:15 PM Despite my age, I'm not as fond of the music I grew up with as some people--Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, etc. I thought popular music reached its apex in the 1970s. So many genres peaked. Psychedelic: Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream. Art Rock: David Bowie, Mott the Hoople. Heavy Metal: Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult. Progressive Rock: Genesis, Renaissance. Folk Rock: Fairport Convention, the Strawbs. Fusion: Jean-Luc Ponty, Al DiMeola. Singer-Songwriter: Billy Joel, John Prine. Reggae: Bob Marley, Peter Tosh. Country Rock: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet. Soft Rock: The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac. Yeah, disco and power-pop arose in the 70s, but so did punk and new wave. There's been plenty of wonderful music, and even entire new genres, since then. But month by month, I found more tunes I loved and still love being produced in the 1970s than in any other decade. cosmictraveler 07-17-05, 07:45 PM Jerry Lee Lewis Joe Cocker Chuck Berry The West Coast Experimental Pop Art Band Pacfic Gas And Electric The Electric Flag Ten Wheel Drive Grand Funk Railroad Fleetwood Mack Arquibus 07-19-05, 11:21 PM I like quite a few of the bands already mentioned, but the Stones and CCR are the absolute greatest. By the way, Alain, Weird Al does everything, so he could technically be considered rock. Fathoms 07-20-05, 07:12 PM Classic Rock: Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Neil Young Alternative Rock (Vintage): Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M, The Cure Revival Rock: Sam Roberts, White Stripes Progressive Rock: Porcupine Tree, Mars Volta, Tool Post Rock: Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Mogwai Modern Alternative Rock: Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, Radiohead titanguy9 07-26-05, 04:13 PM alter bridge Closet Philosopher 07-26-05, 04:27 PM Guns n' Roses Tool Red Hot Chili Peppers I also like many individual songs from bands that I generally don't like. cosmictraveler, I thought I was the only one who listens to Grand Funk Railroad. I love listening to my 60s and 70s records (many of them belonged to my parents or to people I knew who were going to throw them out). I forgot to mention the Guess Who. After I saw Burton cummings live, I progressed much faster in learning the piano because of his inspiration, now I can play his songs! fadeaway humper 07-26-05, 06:17 PM I'm stuck between the cosmictraveller and Fraggle Rocker. I'll just add Supertramp and the early Alan Parsons Project. Cosmic, should I give a listen to Pacific Gas And Electric and Ten Wheel Drive? Is it hard rock? Southern rock? Bluesy-folky rock? Neildo 07-27-05, 12:03 AM Heh, I can't really think of any bands that hasn't already been said. However, I can't believe nobody has yet to mention The Beatles. Yes, they did a lot more than just pop songs targetted towards girls (only their early stuff really was). They're the most evolutionized band ever. - N Arquibus 07-27-05, 12:36 AM I like the Beatles, but I didn't think to mention them because they aren't my all-time favorites. They are quite good, especially during their "Beatles on Drugs" era. Their greatest song was Eleanor Rigby. Oh, and Titanguy-Alter Bridge sucks LOL!!! Mr.Jack4WAR 07-27-05, 12:57 AM well geese no one in this entire site likes modern day metal haha, well i like post hardcore/emo/screamo... u no what ever -Greeley Estates -Alesana -Haste the Day -Norma Jean -A Dying Decleration -So She Sang --- and weirdly i wudnt no how to catorigize these two bands :SOAD, and Static-x gort 07-29-05, 02:22 PM The Stooges Queens Of The Stone Age The Who Fu Manchu Black sabbath And lots of others Closet Philosopher 07-29-05, 02:55 PM The Beatles are automatic... they are above being mentioned. This is a rock bands thread though, they would be classified more as "pop". cosmictraveler 07-29-05, 04:33 PM The Atomic Rooster Tower Of Power Dr. John The Fugs Pacific Gas and Electric Peace and Quiet The James Gang The Pie Swindler 07-29-05, 06:36 PM Motörhead Böhse Onkelz Blind Guardian In Flames Those are my topmost favorites. True, though some Beatles ("Come Together" for instance) is more like rock. And in the old days there wasn't much of a difference anyway. Hapsburg 07-30-05, 01:06 AM If guitar qualifies as "Rock" music: Reich and Roll, excellent band. They play old, 19th C and early 20th C German military music with Rock instruments. http://www.reichandroll.com/Prussian%20Glory%20Clip.mp3 one of thier free downloadable files at thier site. It's cool. Idle Mind 07-30-05, 01:37 AM Coheed and Cambria!
