If you were going to build a computer what would you build?

    Include;
Motherboard, processor, graphics, memory, sound, case, cooling, drives and other peripherals and components.

This thread is mostly for fun so you could do it to a budget or not, be creative!

    Several human brains.
    Biomachine connective circuits.
Various apparatuses for hooking up the brains together to work as one processor.
Various apparatuses for taking information from the brains to back them up in a 100-TB drive.
Monitor. Ultra high resolution. The best human skill can offer.
Who the hell needs sound? But JBL "hump" speakers, please.
Optical Scroll Mouse with those little flipping-between-web-pages button thingies at the sides.
Apparatus to automatically nourish the brains and to alert me when food is low to make it convenient.

    Done.

I'd wait until you built yours then steal it, that way I would get the best for nothing!

I might like to build myself a new computer as mine is over 2 years old now. A 2 Ghz based system is what I have just now, its really good that processor and general technology surrounding computers has slowed down as about 4 years ago your computer would have been obsolete in a matter of months! Ah those were the days.

I will create a motherboard that supports 100 old processors that can brought at the price of latest one from intel.

    Processor: top-of-the-line AMD
Motherboard: good high quality motherboard to fit the processor. The motherboard has to have either jumpers or the BIOS has to be both highly configurable and immune to Windows.
gfx card: NVidia's latest for gamers
memory: 2GB of 233MHz DIMMs (I'll never have to use swap space! MWAHAHAHA!)
sound: high quality and linux support
case: see-through aluminum with cold cathode lighting; full tower; no drive rails
cooling: 100 ft^3/s ultra-silent proc fan, 3 standard case fans in parallel
drives: 52x52x52 CD-RW drive, 3.5" floppy drive, DVD-RW drive, 4 80GB 80MB/s SCSI Seagate drives (two pairs of RAID mirrored drives), 1 20GB Seagate IDE-type

    other components:
    laser mouse
full diagnostic array (so I can almost tell you which transistor went wrong when)
    watchdog card
    12"x12" flatbed scanner
    handheld scanner
    webcam
    100Mbps NIC hooked to a T3 pipeline
    SCSI/RAID controller
    keyboard with NO "Windows" keys
25" LCD monitor (1600x1200 max resolution)
    5-point surround sound
    firewire
    USB 2.0
neural art link (think a picture and it can read it)
    memory stick reader

    Did I forget anything?

My fantasy computer would, of course, be built by myself and have a highly modified case. I don't really care about speed on my system (I don't do benchmarks).... I prefer a budget system that can do what I want.

CPU: Any highly overclockable AMD (what I have)
Mainboard: Abit (completely overclocking friendly mainboards like what I have)
    Graphics: Top line ATI
Sound: Decent professional sound module for music recording
Memory: Whatever maximum for the board
HDD: As much as possible (for the price)
CD RW: What I have is sufficient... don't burn at top speed
    DVD: No need
Monitor: At least 20 inch flat panel display

With a complete LCD display on the front to monitor my system, CPU temps and fan(s) controller.

Of course this fantasy PC would run Linux for my day to day computing and my old wincrap 98 SE for games (just like now).

Come to think of it... I basically have what I want minus the sound, memory, HDDs and LCD display. Only thing I would change other than that is to a 400 Mhz FSB compatable mainboard (with 1/6 dividers). Mine goes beyond 400 FSB but does not contain the 1/6 divider to keep the PCI in spec.

But, this isn't a fantasy computer, per se....

Man, where do you put all those speakers? I have 2.1 and I am more than satisfied and don't have the place to put them. (I am not hanging speakers from my walls and celiing in this room... I use it as a jam room too)

    For a plausible computer:

    Processor: AMD 64-bit FX
Motherboard: A top-of-the-line ASUS that can support my CPU and has all the best features and enough ports so that I don't need expansion cards
    Memory: 3GB CORSHAIR(sp?) PCI3600 or higher
Graphics: Latest ATI 256MB DDR, All-In-Wonder
Case: http://www.xoxide.com/clearacatxca.html I would like one like that with LED silent fans except I would like the case to be bigger and better, but you get the general idea.
Drives: The fastest most accurate DVD/CD burner, A really fast CD rom drive for games, A Universal Card Reader and three Serial ATA 500GB Maxtor hard Drives.

    Other:

    Wireless gaming mouse and keyboard
A thin 1 inch thick scanner (2400 DPI or higher)
    Webcam
Fastest possible modem for the fastest internet connection possible where I live
I huge surround sound system with ten 12 inch subwoofers embedded in the floor
    A cool wallaper
    Voice interface
An IMAX theatre for sound and video
    a really comfortable chair

    yea u need the chair

OK what i would upgrade from my system is a wireless keyboard so i could sit on my bed and deal with the DVD player and a HUGE flat screen. I mean like 40 inch

Ok, it I were to be realistic, I would just have a nice surround system. I want to save my money throughout the first couple of years of university university so that I can get a sweet system.
