The land of the free....whoa ha ha ha

This law looks really fantastic. When are the camera's going to enter our houses? We all know those family parties where some uncle is filming everything. With all these watermarked media, we might not be able to see it anymore. Unless we break the watermark protection and then we risk to be punished. I understand that intellectual rights need to be defended, but so do our civil rights! Take a look at the entire article

    America is nuts.
thank any god I don't live there. About those watermarks- bullshit. doesn't worry me too much.
Here in E Europe people always make it out and around all kinds of restrictions. Soviet times have learned us to be good at that. Gates and all the rest of the industry may go and shoot themselves.

we are already putting together our won pc's
that WinXP version in the article.
    it is right.
could be bought in our region, before the release in the states.

    Vive l Anarchy
Long live the free people of digital age
we are our freedom. take it from us- we'll think of smthing. kill us- there will be more of us to come.

    The Hollywood Cartel strikes again.

You have to look at this from a few views though,
    First the for protection:

I can understand that people deserve to be paid for writing a script, or for a person writing a song.

I understand that these people, these artist do want to try and protect their work from being produced by another for two reasons:

    1: To stop people plagurising
2: To make money out of it.

Copyright theft is suppose to cost Billions of currency (which ever denomination) through the loss of sales because of the black market.

Of course this leads onto the opposition:

If it wasn't for the consumer there would be no money to be lost
It's understandible that we live in a world that seems to be targetted to create "Consumerism", and if your spending money on everything, eventually you run out of funds.

So what does this leave??? Nothing, you either own something or you don't, or you bend the law a little just to survive.

I can understand someone making a copy of a game, a film or a song, I don't really have much problem with that, as thats an individual doing it alone. In fact if you were to look at the patenting laws you can even assemble a patented device at home as long as your not going to mass market it, and it's a single prototype. (of course you might have to ask for permission also)

To put it bluntly, I can't afford to purchase everything necessary in life, sometimes I'm left to starve a day or two just to make ends meet, this is down to consumerism. So if I copy a game, film or music track, I have good reason.

If it's really worth purchasing I will, but I'm not paying £4000 for a piece of software, which is just an upgraded version of something that had previously been £3500, where the cost of a copy would be like £1.50. If they charged £25-£40 I would agree with it.

I never figured out how to type that character. Do I have to change keyboard settings?

So you suggest we should go along these lines?

I don't want to pay for the things I love. I am a greedy selfish pig. Everytime game developers have spent 3 years making a game, their finished product should be delivered for free to my front doorstep in a 24K golden package (Fed Ex of course).

In fact I'm so selfish I'm going to let people starve to death while I try to accumulate every worldly possession possible.

One thing that really pisses me off is when such pirates call themselves goody goodies. I am a holy person, I am not a thief, I am a christian.

Allowing for copying (for the purpose of backing up) and prostitution are ok IMO, but thinking you are entitled to everything for free is another story.

Stryder made a good point about being reasonable and doing things of the like only when it is called for. Some of you other folk don't seem to think this way.

And it seems alot of people do it just to be proud and show off. To say to others that "hey, I can rebel against the system and I copy things"

    proud and show off?!
I'm a person with no income and I don't even think of paying 4000$ just to check out some program.

I don't profit from it, so I see nothing bad.

Well Really I started this thread, because I do not think all are trying to steal!
& if you read the articles you will see that what they want to do interferes with many things.
I would not want to sit in front of my computer watching a film, why can't Hollywood just put there films on tape don't bother with DVDs !
& modern music is just shit to me,so why must any computer I have be crippled !!just to please these money grabbing bastards!

Due to the music producers greed, several of the net radio stations have gone off the air. The music industry wants them to come up with what every fee has been agreed upon. This has been waived for now according to CNN until the next meeting on the subject in a couple of years. I don't imagine the price will go down while they are waiting.

Once you buy a copy of a song, that song should be yours. You paid for it. If you choose to make a dozen copies for your personal use, I don't see what the problem is. You did buy it. Same with software. Only places like MS want to sell you the use rights but not the program that you bought and paid for. This I think wrong. Very wrong. I am not renting software when I buy it. I am buying because my computer isn't going to operate without it. I should be able to transfer that copy to another computer if I so desire. I did buy it...
