View Full Version : FREE THOUGHTS except...
lordjin 11-11-02, 11:11 AM Those that are deemed frivolous or unintelligent by the moderators...
So choose wisley boys and girls... think carefully about the word "free" before you start typing!
I think there is a difference between free and inappropriate .
too often people think that if they are free they can do whatever they want (discuss their penis size), but there are other people who might not like it and their freedom should be not to hear/read/see such things, therefore there has to be a mutual respect of each others rights
Pollux V 11-11-02, 11:51 AM Yeah, actually none of this is free, jin, this place is private, you're lucky our great and glorious poriferous leader, porfiry, is gratious enough to let you post your nonsense here without paying. Count your blessings.
lordjin 11-11-02, 12:33 PM Count my blessings? Are you for real?
Pollux V 11-11-02, 12:38 PM I was a little overzealous. But I was serious.
You're on your way to being labelled a troll, man. Stop whining and complaining before you lose it all.
One of the things that has not been done, lordjin, is to enforce the rules to a nitpick. The members of this site have been given far more leeway than what is called for. The moderation has been reasonable and not unduly harsh.
Free thoughts does not mean anything goes. I suggest you reread the TOA that you signed when you registered. You did agree or you would not have been able to post. As such you have no valid complaint in the closing of those threads.
Among other things you agreed to is the following statement:
The owners of sciforums.com have the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason. Your membership at sciforums.com may be revoked without prior warning for any reason.
Think of it this way: I've been censored ... once that I can recall, and possibly twice. In three years. And that was because some coward couldn't tell me to my face that he or she didn't like certain words I was using. Poor Oxygen, trying to figure that one out. I was unhappy about it but in the end I won out; I have one of the cleaner vocabularies around here, and I'm known for burying people in profanity from time to time.
Other than that, we've been given free reign. But think of this: the search engine is no longer up to par, it can't find topics that I know exist somewhere. Part of the reason for this is that as the number of posters increase, so does the amount of useless chatter and so does the number of useless threads.
And I can't recall any topic being closed straightaway, except maybe for Razz's editorial cartoon a while back. Even the dumbest of topics generally gets a chance; if they can't be salvaged by the posters and are closed, I halfway support this.
Take a look at the amount of shite going on that makes Sciforums less-than-attractive to potential users, current users, and past users. I have a good deal of respect for our kind host, whom I've never met personally. The guy busts himself to give us this place to speak our minds. I would just hope people have something better on their minds than the next ass joke. It doesn't seem too much to ask: we hope to be treated respectfully, like intelligent people. So I don't get what's so hard about behaving respectfully, like intelligent people.

Tiassa - I still have that cartoon saved on my HD :p
Yeah, that cartoon (http://www.sciforums.com/attachment.php?postid=74672) still cracks me up. I got a cartoon made of me by KB once, but it wasn't nearly as good.
On the other hand, I did think to go back and find this topic (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=6531&perpage=20&pagenumber=5). Hopefully that link is for the last page.
Because I would ask the complainers if this is how they would prefer the moderators deal with people.
I still find it one of the most effective moderation posts ever.
BTW ... the editorial cartoon topic was forcefully closed. Porfiry's opinion is perfectly clear, as such, in his post advising the end of the topic (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=5339&perpage=20&pagenumber=2).
thanx,
Tiassa

Peace.

On Radioactive Waves 11-12-02, 12:23 AM [KalvinB personna] okay, i dont know the guy, but thats some funny shit!
An early post of mine that was deleted, hilariously, I think:
"Star Trek= Liberals in Space"...I could have goofed on Ghandi or Jesus or anything else, but STAR TREK-no way! A TV show! TV exists mainly to make people stupid while trying to sell them things! Oh man, I guess this makes me an infidel...I busted on Star Trek and TV in general. A Double Infidel! Nothing good can come of this...
CounslerCoffee 11-12-02, 01:22 PM Airdog your on my to kill list.
NOW. Nothing is free, no matter how free its suppose to be its always got limits. Freedom has limits. Get over it.

CounslerCoffee 11-12-02, 08:17 PM Yes avatar, vive la anarchy...:bugeye:
I was talking about that free lunch thing, you know, nothings free, not even a free lunch. My ecnomics teacher told me that, he was fat to, you could tell what was on his mind.
you're right- nothing's free as is
but it has always been so and will forever be
I hate communism and it is not an answer

LOL!
CounslerCoffee 11-12-02, 08:39 PM Avatar a communist government could work, in THEORY. The only reason why the USSR fell in on itself is because we got into a cold war and made them spend all their money on guns, planes, tanks, etc.
It COULD have worked. It is, after all, the best form of government... IN THEORY.
aye, I know that well, but you didn't mention the most important reason of all why it wouldn't work- HUMAN NATURE...
we want to be rewarded for a good work. we hate when others get paid the same but they have done nothing...
communism is an utopia never to work as long as human race exists
CounslerCoffee 11-12-02, 08:51 PM aye, I know that well, but you didn't mention the most important reason of all why it wouldn't work- HUMAN NATURE...
What do humans know about human nature? Nothing. Humans can be just as good as they can evil. And if everything in the world is fine then there would be no evil.
we want to be rewarded for a good work. we hate when others get paid the same but they have done nothing...
Its for this simple reason that things would not work, greed. If humans found a way over these stupid things then we would be fine, everyone would be happy, perfect utopia.

Very true. Don't forget human greed. Capitalism or Communism, as long as there are greedy individuals who simply need to accumulate more - be it power or fortune, neither can be utopian.

Phrenetic 11-12-02, 11:32 PM pleaes don't hijack the thread. post this shtuff in a new thread, yo~
didjital 11-13-02, 04:46 AM Free enough? And complaining free :)
when people are free to do as they please, they usually imitate eachother regardless.
lordjin 11-14-02, 12:22 PM viva my penis!!!
lordjin,
Exactly where does you answer fit into this discussion? To a large part this is what headed the other threads to closing.
lordjin 11-14-02, 01:58 PM okay, okay.
I'll donate some money, how's that?
goofyfish 11-14-02, 02:04 PM You believe a contribution would entitle you to different
standards? Not. You would pay enough to offset the aggravation
factor that you bring here? You don't have that kind of money.
:bugeye:
While money is welcome, I think you miss the point.
Do be aware that contributions will not alter the persuit of objectional posts or thoughts.
lordjin 11-15-02, 03:27 PM Whoa now hold on just a second! What great aggravation? Don't you think you're being a little too harsh?
On Radioactive Waves 11-15-02, 03:29 PM maybe your just being a little too immature
pumpkinsaren'torange 11-16-02, 10:31 AM grrr..............i DON'T get it!!!!!! i hate double-standard, hypocritcal behavior...and, right now...i see alot of that going on on this board ....for instance...there are at least 3 new threads that have sex, sex, SEX....(oooh, i said THAT word) painted all over and in them...(no pun intended:P) ..what gives? to some of the mods: didn't your mama raise you up in a family to do things fairly?? in otherwords, what you do for/towards one..you do for/towards all?? how come you let some people get away with posting whatever their little heart's desire and some you silence and censor??:bugeye:
p.s. Goofyfish: i like your Avatar!:D
It may come down to the issue of sex being off topic as some want to disabuse it. I have never had an issue with the subject of sex, especially here as a learning tool. We have given far more leeway on this subject than the rules call for in hopes that the subject could be dealt with on a mature level.
Unforetunately, some ruin for all and the mature level has been all but nonexistant within this forum in dealing with the topic. The result of out of hand behaviour is the closure of threads.
pumpkinsaren'torange 11-16-02, 11:22 AM ok. but, that avatar of yours.....just what the heck is that little red fleck floating by/ underneath the shark.. & it keeps chomping down on it? what's going on with that shark? is that supposed to be a little fish? or is there a deeper meaning in that...such as...that is supposed to represent all us posters here and, the shark is actually....YOU?! ;) aw, relax...i'm just messin' with ya...:D hmm...or maybe that shark represents satan with that little fleck floating by representing all of humanity. ok. i had better quit now. my mind has a tendency to be very creative at times..:D :p
You are fishing for meanings that aren't there, pumpkinsaren'torange. I like the fish, the shark. It has other meanings in my life not known to the forum community that were meant as a good natured joke. So do I throw out the shark avatar because it has a fish I didn't want?
pumpkinsaren'torange 11-16-02, 11:42 AM oh. so..that little red floating-by-thing is a fish.
naw...keep the avatar. you wouldn't want to throw the baby out with the bath-water, now, would you. besides....fish not only make great pets but pretty good sandwiches as well. :D
