It has most of the psycho traits of Excel Saga but none of the funny ones. Amazingly, it made even less sense.

Its so unorganized and hard to follow... I didnt know when there were dream seqences and when stuff was real... no to mention a killer satellite or something that turns into a baseball glove and throws a ball only to be hit by a little kid with a guitar? Wtf? I like scifi, but this anime makes no sense... its crap

FLCL is pure genius, and is packed with enough Freudian sexual imagery to make even ME uncomfortable!

Seriously, though, it's pretty incredible. It makes far more sense if you watch the series a second time, keeping in mind that it focuses on the coming-of-age of the main character, and not so much on the intergalactic shenanigans that serve as a vehicle for the central themes.

It also helps to know that N.O. is an energy substance that can serve as a portal for transporting matter across potentially unlimited amounts of space, and is often found in the human head.
