View Full Version : Explain if you will..................
ReighnStorm 10-06-05, 10:15 AM What your screen name means to you. How and why you chose it?
Some are pretty obvious in opinion but I would like to know why you chose that one in particular.
My screen name is ReighnStorm: I chose it because of how a rain storm makes me feel at the moment it happens. Whether it's late at night and the sky is lit every few minutes because of lightning or early in the morning like now when the wind howls and the sound of rain hitting the earth as it replenishes its soul and the rage of the storm in its voice. I spelled it Reighn because of the word reign which means dominance or influence and adding storm to it meant that I see myself as a naturally powerful influential, dominating person with the power to replenish the soul. :D
So how about you? :)
~water~
My favourite element. I chose it intuitively, without knowing why exactly, at that time.
~water~
It has no shape, but can take on any, and leave it again, and still be itself.
Water is unfathomable, and so is identity.
geodesic 10-06-05, 12:48 PM Geodesic: the shortest distance between two points.
I like geometry, and it's the first word that occurred to me.
Communist Hamster 10-06-05, 02:55 PM Communist Hamster: there are 2 species of hamster called the "Chinese Hamster", the "Russian Hamster" and the "Korean Hamster". All of these countries have been or are communist. The hamster in my avatar is currently my pet hamster.
certified psycho 10-06-05, 03:09 PM My favourite element.
Water is not an element. :D
Mine is as it is because I hvae beened dubbed that at school in a goodway.
curioucity 10-07-05, 11:33 AM In random occasions, I suddenly stop and ask myself: Why things around me are that way (no, back when I was thinking of a nick to have, I'm not thinking of philosophy)
c20H25N3o 10-07-05, 11:43 AM My name seemed fitting for a science site and usage shook my complacency about the nature of things. Kind of science and philosophy rolled into one for me. You have the cold hard facts of chemical science and the completely unknown realm of the mind in my name I guess.
peace
c20
malkavpunk 10-07-05, 12:31 PM Mine is pretty superficial.
Malkav - Abbreviated "malkavian". My favorite clan in "vampire:the masquerade". Malkavians are a clan of vampires who are all irreverably mentally ill in one way or another, as a side effect of their embrace. They also possess an uncanny insight into "what's really going on", which many other vampires find disturbing, because you can never tell when a malkav is just rambling, or when he's acting as oracle.
Punk - I love punk rock. :p
Onefinity 10-08-05, 01:42 AM Onefinity, a "number" that I made up. It is 1 raised to the power of infinity. Mathematically that just means 1, but to me, the process of the multiplying and always getting a new 1 represents the nature of the cosmos.
vslayer 10-09-05, 04:00 AM slayer has been my gaming name since the days of diablo, and since it always seems to be taken whenever i sign up i put my second favourite letter infront of it. hence vslayer
one_raven 10-09-05, 04:36 AM Water is not an element. :D
element (http://www.bartleby.com/61/42/E0084200.html)
5. One of four substances, earth, air, fire, or water, formerly regarded as a fundamental constituent of the universe.
Expand your understanding a bit beyond literal science.
cosmictraveler 10-09-05, 10:05 AM I come from a galaxy, far , far away....
Cottontop3000 11-19-05, 02:54 AM Cottontop was my nickname when I was a kid because my hair is quite blonde and soft like cotton.
3000 because I would love to see what the universe is like in the year 3000.
spuriousmonkey 11-19-05, 09:55 AM spuriousmonkey because I am not a genuine monkey.
I am an ape.
And I didn't really think about the name to join sciforums. It was already the name of my alter ego on my website.
ReighnStorm 11-19-05, 10:50 AM I come from a galaxy, far , far away....
You mean the Milkyway Galaxy right? :)
PsychoticEpisode 11-20-05, 10:54 AM I can only participate during one.
tablariddim 11-20-05, 11:56 AM Ta... Thanks
bla... the debates
rid... annihilate
dim... my ignorance
I just thought of that.
No, it's simply that when I registered on to sciforums, Trilok Gurtu was playing on my jukebox and I thought, ah tabla rhythm, but I put riddim as in British black street slang.
Hapsburg 11-20-05, 03:13 PM Hapsburg- the alternate spelling of Europe's greatest ruling family.
leopold99 11-24-05, 09:36 AM if i am not mistaken leopold was the name of a german gun used to destroy warsaw or parts of france during world war 2.
Killjoy 11-24-05, 11:34 PM if i am not mistaken leopold was the name of a german gun used to destroy warsaw or parts of france during world war 2.
Leopold's claim to fame was being half the battery of guns known as "Anzio Annie" to American troops being bombarded by it and it's twin - named Robert - as they attempted to establish a beach-head near Anzio, Italy during WW2

Leopold is currently displayed at the Aberdeen Ordinance Museum in Maryland
As for me...
Killjoy is a combination of a play on words centering on a bit of graffiti painted by US troops on various locations across the globe - "Kilroy was here", and the name of an obscure character from the (I believe) now defunct Charlton comics publication "E-Man".
Killjoy seemed to have no super powers save the ability to nullify the effects of whatever villains attempted to do to him, at which point they might be inclined to utter the phrase:
"You're such a Killjoy !"
;)
Hapsburg 11-25-05, 02:53 AM if i am not mistaken leopold was the name of a german gun used to destroy warsaw or parts of france during world war 2.
It was also the name of several Dukes and Archdukes of Austria, two Holy Roman Emperors, and is also the name of my dead cat.
leopold99 11-25-05, 10:51 AM can i change my name?
allisone417 11-28-05, 08:57 PM my name is alison. in a hard rock cafe in NY, my friend saw the sign behind me and a few posts and only saw AL IS ON , and pointed it out to me. it's really ALL IS ONE. grew on the philisophy.
cato.... my real name is Cato....
Professor Marvel 11-29-05, 09:04 AM Funny you should ask; I just got here.
I have long related to Professor Marvel, the mere mortal who the residents of Emerald City proclaimed to be “Oz, the First Wizard Deluxe”. Many unbelievers remember him as a charlatan; they forget that in the end his wizardry triumphed.
In my case, there have been many times in my life when I received more credit than I felt I deserved for what I had done. And yet I can’t think of any one person who could live my whole life any better than I.
(Or maybe we’re both just hucksters!)
kenworth 11-29-05, 09:36 AM i needed an email address about 6 years ago and ken was taken and i had kenworth in the back of my mind, not sure where from.found out it was a trucking company a few months ago.hmmm
kenworth 11-29-05, 09:36 AM also i have a deep suspicion of email addresses with numbers in them, sorta like with double-barrelled names.
there are 2 species of hamster called the "Chinese Hamster", the "Russian Hamster" and the "Korean Hamster".
How many species of hamster are there again?
comisaru 11-29-05, 10:57 AM In my native language, this is my actual profesional rank. No joke.
leopold99 11-29-05, 12:30 PM In my native language, this is my actual profesional rank. No joke.
rank?
you mean like the boss of a company or something like that?
comisaru 11-30-05, 03:09 AM rank?
you mean like the boss of a company or something like that?
No, it's a kind of military rank, or like a police officer one.
No, it's a kind of military rank, or like a police officer one.
It sounds a bit like Commissioner, which I believe is top rank (or at least close to it?) in a Police station.
SearchingBeing 11-30-05, 10:47 PM Umm, mine is a bit easy to understand. I'm searching for many things, and I'm alive so I guess it clarifies me to be called a being.
ReighnStorm 12-11-05, 11:56 PM So whats your second choice? Or what is your is your actual first name (1st only)?
I got my screen name from a detective in a comic book.
tablariddim 12-12-05, 11:38 AM I like rude screen-names. Once, feeling a bit cheeky, I registered onto this site as likyerpussy. Some girl replied to my post, which wasn't rude at all and asked me what my name meant, when I sort of spelled it out for her, she got really cross and then her boyfriend posted a really threatening message to me. What is it with people?
that's a hilarious scenario, since you obviously didn't come up with that name with her in mind. lol @ newbs.
ReighnStorm 12-12-05, 07:39 PM I can't believe you had to even kind of spell it out for her!
