Suicide bombers 'arrive in Iraq' (BBC) (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2900719.stm) Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad said in a statement that it "brings to our people and nation the good news of the arrival of its first martyrdom (attackers) to the heart of Baghdad."

The group's mission is "to fulfil the holy duty of defending Arab and Muslim land," by attacking coalition troops, the statement said.

Iraq has declared that more than 4,000 foreign Arab volunteers have come forward to fight and were ready to die if necessary.

"We want to help Iraqis, not Saddam," said Amr, a student volunteer from Cairo.

"I know I might die. I don't want to kill people but I will if I have to, to protect people like those children with their heads missing."

Television footage of civilian casualties from Iraq's second city of Basra showed a child whose head had been blown off. Well now ... is there anyone outside the Bush administration who didn't expect this?

And hey, like Amr said, they want to help Iraqis, not Saddam.

This could get interesting, as opposed to sheerly ridiculous.

Of course, there are those cynics who will say that the Bush administration did expect this, but such cynicism also says Iraq is the intended starting point of a massive war agains the entirety of Islam. Maybe there's a half-cynical compromise somewhere. I can almost envision it, but it's not worth the effort.

And, for the record: At least they're going after military targets this time.

"At least they're going after military targets this time"

Because that is all they have. Once Halliburton, Bechtel, and others move into the oilfields, and Boeing, Northrup, and other contractors move into the infrastructure surrounding the military bases...

Believe me, I know the feeling. Time to go home now, car looks ok underneath & under the hood, open the door carefully, take a good look around, sit down, close the door, and your eyes, now turn the key...
