View Full Version : Expectations of another terrorist attack

Over the past couple of weeks people have been saying the USA government knew a terrorist attack was coming but did nothing to prevent it or warn anyone. Now the USA government is warning of an impending attack. Is this just a blanket statement to cover any possible future attacks? Or do they really think another is imminent? Does anyone expect that such an attack will not occur?

Hello? Anybody home? This whole "imminent attack" crapola is just misdirection. Amazing how mere days after people finally started to realize that Bush helped murder 3000 Americans and even more Afghanis, we get word of a new attack. Stay in your homes! You could be next! Don't question the government, it is protecting you! Give me a break.

You've never shown that Bushie maliciously ignored those warnings, Northwind.

But yes, I find the coincidence stunning. If it were a coincidence.

Can we say "distraction"? Oh yes we can!

So now things are just too dangerous to hold an investigation on the matter of pre-911 warnings. We can't do that now, we might be attacked soon! But you know, those gosh-darned partisan Democrats............

The new warning is a little more substantal than the ones in the past. Instead of being a "nuclear power plant" or a general vague target, they recently said the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge may be targets for terrorists.

The administration is pounding the drum extra hard to try to get rid of the pesky "Bush Knew" rumor, which he didn't really.

There will be another attack. The next attack, when it happens, will have been planned for two or more years, just like 9/11. Whatever it is the plan is well into motion, it up to us to stop it dead in its tracks.

Some in the intellegence community say they can't be expexted to bat 1000. Can anyone imagine what batting a .300 on terrorism would be like. One strike killed 3,000, I can't imagine anymore.

I think it's rather irrelevent, all this talk of whether Bush knew or not. Face it, the USA government must have known for a couple of decades at least that some terrorist group would strike them some day. And yes, it's an impossible job, monitoring a nation with almost 300 million residents, 500 million visitors each year, 11 million trucks crossing the borders each year, and so on (quoting Bush's figures there). The USA's intelligence community must have stopped countless attempts. Even while the 11/9 was going down, they probably had people out in the field stopping other attempts. Unfortunately nobody is perfect and one got through. It is reasonable to assume another attack is coming. Maybe scores of large-scale attacks have been planned.

I wasn't completey suprised when 9/11 happened. I as well as others expected that there would be a major terrorist attack in the future. When it happened I was supprised, but not blown away about terrorists.

A rather unfortunate turn of phrase.

The war is less and less about threats against the US and more and more about fighting a war. I'm convicned of that.

And now there are these tenuous efforts to link Hamas with al-Qaida. It all looks rather disingenuous. As far as I know, al-Qaida is really the only organisation that has targeted the US over the last 15 years. So why is the US deciding to pick fights with everyone?

Cuba is castigated for harbouring ETA members. Hello George? Look in your own backyard for the IRA amongst others...

That is precisely is the problem. Unless we turn USA into a gestapo country....

To top it off, they are asking the same group of people to design new systems who did the old system...hope it works this time...

Theyve been promiseing a new terrorist attack ever couple of weeks since 9/11. This implies to me that the government actually has no clue but if they warn frequently enough they won't look like the asses they did after 9/11.

For starters we haven't gone after anyone else than al-Qaeda, except for Abu Sayaaf, which is a branch of al-Qaeda. More is going on against the terrorist organizations than is beeing seen. Al-Qaeda currently constitutes the largest threat the US, as way of terrorism. Hamas, Hezbollah, and many other groups will be hunted down too. Iraq is an eventuallity, with Iran and possibly other nations.

We have to attack the other terrorist groups, because we cannot choose to be selective, and if we let one off it will grow into the next al-Qaeda. There have been approx. 3 meetings with different terror organizations to cumulate their efforts against the west, al-Qaead included.

One of the largest activities against any enemy in this business will be talk among diplomats and such. Staff from embassies are always passing information to each other about things. Same in the military. If we were somewhere on my ship, and we had info the locals might like, we' d often just pass it on (provided Maritime Head-Quarters says it's okay). This is going on constantly, all around the world.
