View Full Version : Expansion of the universe
Dreamsa 12-14-01, 04:23 AM Hi!
Do anyone know that whether there is firm evidence to support that the expansion rate of the universe is increasing?

Dreamsa 12-14-01, 09:47 AM Thanks!
I will take a look and see whether I can find what I want.
Mr G,
is the expansion constant or it is pulsating like after certain expansions it will shrink again for another big-bang...
just wanna know...
bye!
Dreamsa 12-14-01, 11:22 PM If the expansion is accelerating, then the universe can no longer be considered as flat?
This acceleration makes the pulsating model for universe not possible, right?
No. It continues to appear flat.
Yes. The Oscillating Universe theory seems to be discounted.
Dreamsa 12-16-01, 04:09 AM Originally a universe is flat means it density is of such a value that the expansion will be constant, right?
The acceleration now has nothing to do with that density and so the universe is still said to be flat, right?
What is causing the acceleration?
I read something about 'pressure' but don't understand!!
Try dark energy, Dreamsa.
Could be the 'nothingness' the 'perfect vacuum' beyond.
Kind of like putting a balloon in a vacuum bell and lowering the pressure.
Just a thought. ;)
Ah, the Big Suck Theory. ;)
Dreamsa 12-17-01, 07:14 AM ;)
What is dark energy? Is that what's talking about in another thread about antigravity?
:)
Dreamsa,
Use a search engine, such as google, and type in dark energy.

Flat is part of curvature, isnt it?so the idea of flat universe is like seeing 3D in 4D world.
bye!
Bingo!
You've heard of it before! Decent!
Pretty neat don't you think? And not too esoteric. :D
Take care. ;)
say if I'm wrong, of course if you can proove it:)
our universe is flat in 3D.
it is a sphere[like a tire of a car] in 4D(i think)
and what about undiscovered dimensions.
there are many theories which state that there may be such only we do not see or understand the affects[not sure the right word] of it.
Maybe it is a singularity [single point] in 5D
or like in MiB movie. a ball in sm other D:D
see what I mean. we know almost nothing for sure about our universe.
Dreamsa 12-19-01, 04:22 AM My guess:
The universe is flat now and it is also flat when seen from any higher dimensions.
True or not, anyone tell me!
