View Full Version : Evolution of Solar System theory - WRONG
Bruce Beal 02-01-07, 08:00 PM not one extra-solar system planet yet "discovered" fits the Comfortable Evolutionary Theory as devised by micro-brained astro-physicists. They are proven to be full of dust and gas, and powered by dark matter between their ears.
BenTheMan 02-01-07, 08:13 PM Do you have any idea as the the ratio of discovered extra-solar planets to known stars in the galaxy?

Current techniques for finding extra-solar planets tend to find large Jupiter-like gas giants. That doesn't mean there aren't plenty of rocky Earth-like planets out there. And in fact, new techniques are now being developed to look for them.
I doubt you really appreciate how difficult it is to "see" a tiny, non-luminous planet when there's a massive, bright star right next door.
EndLightEnd 02-01-07, 08:35 PM Isnt NASA going to launch a new probe in a few years that will be able to detect Earth size planets?
BenTheMan 02-01-07, 10:08 PM And the Europeans just launched one this past month I think.
yes corot, but it wil only detect planets that are 2/3 times larger then earth meaning either verry massive or verry icy. With big atmospheres

PS when the image is credited can you yust simply post it?
It's been active since february and because of it's inner workings it would seem that it will stare for 5 months at a little field in the air and then come up with 10-40 of such planets with a dozen or so new gas giants. Then it would look to a other piece in the air and do the same thing
As it seems today abouth 1/2 suns that have planets could also support earths in their habitable zone

Do you have a better theory/hypothesis?
zenbabelfish 02-02-07, 10:59 AM Calculations for a paper submitted to the 'Nature' journal by Charlie Lineweaver and Daniel Grether of NSW University, Australia: "There are about 300 billion stars in our galaxy. About 10% (or 30 billion) are roughly Sun-like...At least 5% (1.5 billion)....have Jupiter-type planets..."

This is an old article and I'm sure there are far less planets with 'inhabitable zones' suitable for life as we know it.
Bruce Beal 02-09-07, 04:50 PM It is theorized that our solar system evolved as it is based upon the laws of newtonian physics etc. and the object then would be to find just one other such 'system'.
If the theory is even close, why haven't they found a gas giant orbiting at the theorized distances? They have found gas giants orbiting at distances much at variance with the theories calculations.
whether they find an earth like planet at habitable orbital distances or no, the THEORY is wrong.
Time to recalculate.
Try explaining the systemic orbitals they have found, and FIT them into some half-baked theory Yourself
Bruce Beal 02-09-07, 04:51 PM personally scarlet I don't give a damn!

So many things are wrong! To assume that "We've only seen gas giants, and our solar system doesn't have any gas giants, therefore the model is wrong" is insane. First, we do have a gas giant, and second, the actual number of solar systems that we have observed is such an insignificant fraction of the number that are actually out there that you have absolutely no basis to make this claim.

Ummm, didn't Kepler already do this? I.e. period squared and radius cubed?
>> Do you have a better theory/hypothesis?
I hold to an ejection theory for planet formation.
I appears that even Earth may be preparing to eject another Moon soon.
And I thought Global Climate Change was a worry!
Some things are just out of our hands.
BenTheMan 02-10-07, 11:04 AM I hold to an ejection theory for planet formation.
Ejection from what? The moon, I know, could have been ejected from earth. But are you saying the earth was ejected?
What about the Kuiper Belt?
Communist Hamster 02-10-07, 12:10 PM I appears that even Earth may be preparing to eject another Moon soon.
What observations lead you to believe this? What is your proposed mechanism for this ejection?
