The following is the transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation that
took place in October 1995, between a US Navy ship off the coast of
England, and British authority. The transcript was released by the MoD.

BRITS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South, to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North,
to avoid a collision.
BRITS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

BRITS: Negative. I say again. You will have to divert your course.

AMERICANS: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER U.S.S. LINCOLN. THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

BRITS: We are a lighthouse. FUCK off.

ROTF at american's :D

Yeap, gotta laugh off that one when I first read it too. Don't know if it is true, as there is a lot of stuff out there on the net that isn't always true, but it did bring a chuckle.

And the light house and a few miles of shore line was blown out of existence to make a passage for the American ships on there unchanging course, the end.

Metaphorically the USofA is like a elephant, an unstoppable mass of trunk and tusks, also metaphorically the USofA is like a small shrew, with equivalent brain power.

Bah. That story is more than 8 years old and I've heard several versions. Last version I heard the ship was a battleship, not an aircraft carrier. The ship and lighthouse country of origin were not listed and the radio transcript was supposedly from the 50s. I've heard another version with a large commerical ship.

wellcooked,
If it wasn't for the US, there would be no ATHF. Plus no Sealab 2021. Ponder that!

Nice Red herring fallacy, so when did I say the USofA should not exist?
