I'm just wondering if anyone is interested, or in fact going... I don't know if European Football is too hot in this corner of the web :D  :p

It's in Portugal no?

I really detest football and it appears the British public is only patriotic when it comes to football. Gawd I hate this country. So no, won't have anything to do with it.

jadedflower
06-06-04, 04:55 PM
It is in Portugal yes, and I'm only patriotic when it comes to football. I hate this country and see no reason to be patriotic in it's defense... now football is another matter altogether!

I echo Thor´s post. Just insert "German" in place of "British".

jadedflower

what's wrong with being patriotic only in football? it's an era of globalization.... let sport be sport!

and it's not like you two love your countries...

Dreamwalker

But I do not like soccer :(
Everytime I have to wittness a game, because some of my friends want to see it, I nearly die of boredom.

jadedflower
06-06-04, 06:42 PM
ah.... you watch boring games then....... I loved watching the world cup two years ago :) I like the big cups, not the small things... but I do have a team, even though I rarerly watch the games.

We kicked polish ass; and lost PATHETICALLY against the US and Korea. However; watching the England games was tons of fun... because you get to watch all the English teachers (from England, as opposed to those who teach english) chuck stuff at the TV and use foul language (no footballistic pun intended).

Dreamwalker
06-06-04, 06:47 PM
The world-cup was as boring as ny other game. I like the games of the local teams, at least there is some brawling sometimes. :D

jadedflower
06-06-04, 06:58 PM
LOL, In the world cup the captain of our team (I think he was....) punched the ref!!!

Dreamwalker
06-06-04, 07:01 PM
Perhaps, but you cannot participate in a brawl happening on the field at the worldcup :D

But truth to tell, I think every kind if sport is very boring when you are watching it. If you participate it is cool, but simply watching?
I´ll just take a look at the results printed in the newspapers.

I really hope England embarasses France in the first game, they are talking waaay too much smack. Viera and Zidane seem to be sqwauking in the papers everyday. Yeh, maybe they have the talent to back it up, but I hope any crappy Euro team can shove hot grassy dirt down their throat.

Sol knows how to handle Henry...

LOL at the thought of nicky butt trying to tackle zidane.

It's irritating enough seeing Henry scoring so much in the EPL. I too hope France gets their ass kicked.
That'll be a good contest, Campbell vs. Henry.

Your clearly not an arsenal fan then(tottenham or united perhaps?), he is the best player in the world and scores some fantastic goals, its just a shame he's french and not english.
That'll be a good contest, Campbell vs. Henry
Henrys just too fast and clever for him.
But truth to tell, I think every kind if sport is very boring when you are watching it. If you participate it is cool, but simply watching?

Some are boring some arnt, its personal taste, and you can just get into some sports and enjoy watching them(ice hockey for one), reading the result isnt whats important, you can hear about a fantastic 4-0 victory but its nothing if you didnt see it.
Small teams are the best to support as they have everything to play for and have never won most things before.

I dont like Arsenal, Tottenham or any other EPL team other then Chelsea. Only club team i care for is BOCA JUNIORS.

Nevertheless France needs to get their arses kicked, hopefully 4-0 in the hands of England.
I think Spain will win Euro 2004 even if no one else I know does, but I have decided against placing a $50 bet, dont wanna push my luck.

Lemming3k
06-08-04, 04:28 AM
I think england will win(and im not just saying that because i want them to), so long as we get our set pieces sorted(conceding a goal from a set piece to iceland is frankly embarassing), and so long as scholes and rooney calm down, i think rooney will get sent off in one match, so long as it isnt the france match we will be ok.
I still dont get what your problem with henry is, is it because he doesnt play for boca or isnt from argentina?;)
I think he's a world class player, and i think the same of a lot of other players, he's worked at getting where he is and deserves it.

Lmao - you're serious right?

Thor
06-08-04, 06:06 AM
Epox, I am indeed serious. Sooner or later football will only be played in those old fairs. It will become like Jousting, how many Jousters do you see nowadays? huh? huh?

Lemming3k
06-08-04, 07:20 AM
lol, Jousting became pointless because guns were invented, theres nothing that can be invented to make football pointless, most people believe its already pointless, though the same can be said for tennis(especially when tim henman plays)....

Thor

Just you wait until they legalise fatal sports...just you wait...

Speedball would be good, for now i like ice hockey and football, both have got a lot of passion in and are quite good to watch.

what world do tou live at? perhaps you are so culturally influenced by the us that you think people around th world will change football for basketball or baseball. that's not a possibility, football's appeal is not only not decreasing but it is actually increasing in many arab and asian countries. the best example is china.

the only logic to ur statement is that you're saying that people will lose interes in all sports. again, i don't think so.

by the way, i don't mean to be rude so i beg your pardon if it seemed like it.

Well, I'm quite a fan of Martial Arts, so I think full on, totally immersive Virtual Reality martial arts fights to the death would easily replace football. All the gore, none of the guilt. That would be a good invention.

I'm not into being a sport spectator either. I'd rather do, that watch. So _watching_ footballers seems tedious at best. I only watch if I can learn from it. Football matches aren't instructional however.

Still, it won't affect me. My favourite pub won't allow anyone wearing football colours in, and doesn't have a TV. I don't even know who or when England are playing, and I couldn't care less.

Thor
06-08-04, 11:59 AM
DerSteppenwolf, if you believe that football will be here for a long time I think you are kidding yourself. Professional football itself is a very new thing, it's only nearly 200 years old. I believe that it's reached it's peak and will deteriorate into nothing as new sports are devised. Football now is popular, but for how long I ask you? But for how long?

I dont consider martial arts much fun or much of a sport, VR is a good idea but perhaps martial arts is too basic for it, good example though.
I'd rather do, that watch. So _watching_ footballers seems tedious at best. I only watch if I can learn from it. Football matches aren't instructional however.
I'd rather play for sure, but i dont know many people that are into it most of my friends dont like sports, so i watch, and i can really get into the passion of it even when watching, maybe because it actually means something to small clubs.
I believe that it's reached it's peak and will deteriorate into nothing as new sports are devised. Football now is popular, but for how long I ask you? But for how long?
Peaked maybe, it may maintain that peak, i dont see it deteriorating though, at least not in popularity, sure the money will go out of it, but there will still be millions that want to play, i know i would, and even if the money went i wouldnt notice the difference in what i watch, most of our players dont get paid much as it is.

There's a major, never seen before, nationalistic football related, anti-governamental wave here!!!!

SO WEIRD!

There are flags everywhere!! And near the European elections; the govmt is so screwed.

Thor
06-08-04, 06:24 PM
Strange how these flags only appear when football is around. Can't remember the last time I saw a flag on election day or on any of the holidays. But football? Oh everyone loves their country then and of course, their team is better than yours.

Lemming3k
06-09-04, 07:38 AM
their team is better than yours
Unless there from australia.;)
But your right, flags arnt out at any other times, maybe its just that this country loves football and hates the government and probably they just dont know the holidays.

Dreamwalker
06-09-04, 07:40 AM
Perhaps the politicians should compete in a football game before the elections :D
Perhaps more people would be interested in politics that way.

Thor
06-09-04, 09:11 AM
I would actually pay to see that...although the thought of seeing John Prescott squeeze into shorts does sicken me to the core.

FETCH ME THE BUCKET!

Lemming3k
06-09-04, 02:05 PM
lol, I think its just because the system we have for politics is a choice of bad or worse, maybe it would be better if we got to vote on any major decisions instead of voting on someone to choose what they think best for a couple years.

Thor
06-09-04, 02:37 PM
So you're asking for a government that doesn't make any decisions and basically holds referendums every day?

I think having spinless gits make the choices is better than letting the public make the choices.

Lemming3k
06-10-04, 12:34 PM
I meant on big issues, like the war in iraq, many people didnt want it but to hell with the people they say, i just disagree since we are supposed to be democratic, same with the Euro, it is our lives these decisions affect after all and theres never a party that is 100% what you want, mostly not even 50%, not voting doesnt solve that but voting just means choosing the least worse party.
But we are off the topic of sports now.

eddymrsci
06-13-04, 05:49 PM
nice!
anybody watched the game? English vs. France?
it was awesome, like one of the best games I have ever seen
england kept the one-goal lead for the whole 90 minutes, but France unexpectedly score two friggin' goals in the added time at the end, both were done by Zidane, the first one was at 90 + 1 minute, and the winning goal by France was a penalty shot at 90 + 3 minute. that gained France the incredible 3 points in group B with the final score of 2-1!
Good job to both awesome teams!
woohoo!

Thor
06-13-04, 06:47 PM
My friend refused to play Joint Operations tonight because he wanted to watch the game. I bite my thumb at the game!

Kunax
06-14-04, 02:45 AM
so basicly you watch a 90 min game where you could have watch the last 3 min, football is boing

Lemming3k
06-14-04, 07:55 AM
The first 90 mins england were outstanding, france were non existant, and then gerrard and heskey show up to spoil the party, same old england cant keep their heads for the last 3 mins of a game and we lose, heskey shouldnt even have been on he's the worst striker we've had in a very long time, france didnt deserve anything from that game.
Kunax it wasnt boring, if you wanna talk about boring you shoulda seen the switzerland croatia game(or you coulda just watched the cricket or tennis).

Bruce Wayne
06-14-04, 08:08 AM
The first 90 mins england were outstanding, france were non existant, ... tennis).

WHAT?! Almost the entire game was played on English soil :p. England had a lucky break.

Lemming3k
06-14-04, 08:53 AM
We controlled the play and should have won, heskey gave away a free kick in the worst place possible then gerrard passed it back without looking, hence two goals in 2 mins, before that france hardly did anything.

06-14-04, 08:56 AM
Cricket was NZ vs. England. Of course it'll be boring.
England and NZ = boring.

France England was frustratingly brilliant.

You should wait for Australia vs. India later this year Lemming. That'll be amazing cricket.

I just cant get into cricket, they spend more time getting the ball back to the bowler than actually throwing and hitting the thing, its just too slow for me, even hockey bores me sometimes when it keeps stopping and starting.

Beckham "some times they go in, sometimes they don't"

Fukk that.

Basinas- Top corner - Unsaveable

Zidane - Side netting - Unsaveable

Beckham - Some Soft pen trying to send the keeper who he's took more against than any other in his whole career the wrong way - Saved before he Kicked it.

Lampard to take them please.

They did not create many chances at all, they had England hemmed in for a large portion of the match. I'll conceed England were not "horrible" by any means, they were pretty darn good actually, but England at their best went against a France side that I don't think has hit top gear yet and still came out second best...alot of that has to do with luck though....

On the other hand Spain were a bit average against Russia, I'm now putting my money on Italy on their defense alone to unseed France.

Kunax
06-14-04, 02:47 PM
what about alle the other teams, would it not be asocial to only wish luck for one team, or how about alle te poor refs. nobody thinks on them :)

wow not a lot of soccer fans here eh? well I have been watching Euro all last week, and I really do think Greece and Czechoslovakia are really good this year, esp. the Czechs, they are unstoppable, 3-0 against Denmark! I think they are going to win the champ

The team I was rooting for, England, unexpectedly lost to portugal :O in a penalty shootout! I can't believe Beckham actually missed it!?
