I have to appear in court and I'm wondering what is the proper way of addressing a judge? What about a magistrate? Is it "Your Honor" or "Your Grace?"
"hey you Fucker....listen up" J/k Your honor should be fine...it's the conventional way and sounds respectful enoughPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
*frown* No, my friend used "Your Grace" and the judge smiled and thanked him for being educated enough to know the proper way of addressing a judge. (He was in the court with a bunch of other immigrants... charged with speeding.) See the thing is, I'm not sure if the U.S. is different from Canada. Neither am I sure if "Your Honor" is to address the court or to address the judge, since you're not supposed to address the judge if there is a jury. Or something like that.
Believe me...it's "your honor"..your grace is not said in US but your honor is a typical and expected. Beyond that it is your choice JeslekPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Well, in Canada, the official phrase is 'my lord.' But use that and you'll probably get laughed out of the courtroom. I'd go with this: BTW, what did you do this time? Jerrek, The most important thing is to shut up, don't speak until spoken to, and pray that the officer doesn't show up. Don't say black, or immigrants, or my right wing friends will get you, or I have connections in the white house, or any of these things that may be percieved cute in sciforum.
Alrighty folks. Although I am not in favour of judges and the like, I ask you to keep the replies a little polite. Thanks.
