In trying to understand entropy I have found there are (at least) two kinds. One is a pure number, an accounting of possible arrangements, seemingly very arbitray called "information" or "disorder" entropy. The other is a physical quantity with dimensions of energy/temperature. People use them both as if they were the same. Apparently a certain Mr. Boltzmann devised a method for converting one into the other some time ago. I was wondering if there is any rigorous proof that both things are one and the same. What was Mr. Boltzmann derivation? Searching in the net brigs up all sort of debate about this, but no clear conclusion. Any one in here know the truth about this?
