I know that alot of people on this forum don't like rap or hip pop but I happen to be a big fan. I suppose many of you have heard that Eminem is going to be in the musical Bye, Bye Birdie and they are going to change it up a bit to have him rap some parts. I think he sold out with this move. Now when I hear him in that new 50 Cent song, I can't even take him seriously. Maybe its the money but I can't understand why people sell out so easily. I guess it is because they had no intergrity in the first place. It's like if you hear what he is saying in his music and then hear that he is now on Broadway, you can think of no other thing than hyprocrite. What do you all think, is he a sellout?

sincerely,
a fan let down by yet another artist who at one time had the balls to tell it like it is.

I don't think he's being a sellout. I think it is fitting that the movie be adapted for a new generation.

Maybe he really likes the musical and welcomes the opportunity to flex his musical muscles?

No matter what anyone might think of him, he is a lot more than just the "Slim Shady" character.

Why would you think he was selling out?

I imagine he is getting plenty of movie offers, plus he makes millions of all his records, why would THIS project be a selling out point?

easy to forget where you came from and to let the words you are saying become just words and nothing more.

True words. But the music industry is so dirty and corrupt contrasted to what people associate music with (one being a fine art and the beauty of it) that artists who come into the big-business sometimes are forced through contracts to put out empty songs and....crap.

He's went this far into the music business to make money, no matter what his original intentions were. Acting might be an easier way to make money. He obviously likes to rap, but maybe making music in a studio has gotten stale and formulaic. Combine what he likes to do with something that makes money as well as albums....I don't think that's selling out.

I never saw Eminem as "the real thing, taking it from the streets."

Marshall knows his time is almost up in the spotlight. He has to find a new gig, and fast. If he's talented on the screen, we'll find out the day he doesn't have to rap to play his role, or the day he doesn't use himself as a myth for a rap adaptation of Flashdance. But what else, short of professional wrestling, can he do for money once the buying public gets sick of his two-bit Capital-G rap menagerie?

I personally thought his lyrics were getting more interesting but his beats were getting more stale on that last album. Anyway, who said movie, they are going to do this version of "Bye, Bye Birdie" on the stage as far as I know, but I could be wrong. I don't know if I agree that he was about to become washed up, but the general opinion is that his act is getting a little boring. Still, find some ways to mix up your style, don't go to Broadway, sheesh! (My apologies to anyone that likes Broadway, I don't intend any offense here).

Well let's; let's see he has put out three albums in which he complains and bitches and moans about his bad life, pisses off people, takes shots at people that pissed him off - well it would seem like he's running out of stuff to rap about. He's alread buried the beef with his mom so he can't rap that anymore, lately nobody has pissed him off so that equals no fodder for another few more songs. Now that he is rich and famous his life is a little more stable now so he can't rap about that now either....as you can see he is running out of material to rap about and sadly he will eventually fade out to like other rappers after the whole angry image fizzles off so i guess he is aware of that fact and trying to expand his oppertunities....though his next album will have amazing lyrics and will sell bajillion copies in it's first week.

Have to respect the man for being a talented writer....this dude can pen strong content in a free flowing poetic format that comes of effortless when he raps it....here is ti hoping he stays strong

BTW his second album is still best IMO

Yeah, I would not consider myself an 'eminem fan' by any means, don't have any of his music or want it.
But I respect him, he's the real thing in that he's the biggest thing to come around for a long time.
And tiassa I don't think he's going anywhere soon. He's pretty much the next elvis, he'll be remembered forever, it took me a long time to accept that because I thought he was a joke at first. But he's only got better.

Now I hardly see how being in a broadway show is selling out. Making a movie, yeah, having one surefire pop-song per album, yeah, but being in a musical is not selling out. That is a sign of him being the real thing.
He's an artist and he must love music to be that talented in the field, trying new things to express that music is an obvious step for a true artist.
He's one of the very few current famous people that deserves their fame. He is special, he is not just a face for producers to use and make money off of.
But he was never a "street thug ridin on 20 inch dubbs", he's a character that he made himself. It isn't real, raw, hip-hop, its a talented individual showing off his writing and lyricist skills.

Again, I am not an eminem fan, I just respect big things in human history and eminem will be one.

I enjoyed his first single.
He's kind of a one trick pony-
same vocal style on every cd.
I wish rap would phase out like
the hair bands..it's a no talent,
non-thinking, party on the pussy,
blast of hot air. No different than
the band Poison.

i think recently he has calmed down alot, but hey, alot of what he was doing and saying would have upset some people. whether he is a sell-out or not i do not really know, but all i say is

ALL TO THERE OWN

if he wants to go after money, it would not be my idea of who he should be, but like i say, it is his life, and he really does not need to listen to any of this because he has made enough money and and has enough status to do what he wants.

remember how britney spears gave the finger to her fans, would she have done that when she was starting her career, she knew she could do anything now, because her status is confirmed.(hey, britney what about asking your local government office for any videos they have of you. lol!!!)

andy1033 -- The government may overregulate certain aspects of peoples' lives, but they do NOT videotape every single person at every single moment. Get a fucking clue. :bugeye:

Andy1033 hasn't made a post without using the word government.
That might be understandable if he only posted in WE&P but he mentions the government at absolutely obscure and arbitrary times. Its hilariously insane.
"Oh yeah I saw these frogs in my garden last night.... The government probably saw them too" :p

I cant believe Eminem is doing this, I do actually doubt it! If this is true then I can't believe it. I've seen him in the 50-cent video and he doesn't seem to want anything to do with it! If it's true then I blame it on him disrespecting everyone in his past, whether intentional or not, and thus he can only move forward.

I'll keep my eyes and ears open until I hear that it's actually true though.

eminem always has been sold out, from the very first day we heard him. He is just one of many new age musical artists who are marketed to the world on multiple platforms, Eminem is about one thing only MAKING MONEY, sure you might say he wants people to enjoy his music but i disagree i don't think he respects his audience at all or his fans.

Oh definately not. You are right.
He doesn't give a damn about his fans and all he wants is money.
But he also happens to be very talented. So he can be called whatever but in the end thats why he's making the money.

i disagree, there are thousands of other rappers and hip-hop artists who would mop the floor with Eminem in a freestlye battle. why don't we get to see a live show with him busting a freestyle? wouldn't that make a heap of money? having Busta and Eminem going head to head on television?
and it's not like they are losing money by letting people hear Eminem for free, cos' it's only a freestlye, something all good rappers can do ten times a day. The reason we don't see Eminem busting a rhyme live on television is cos' it takes a long to time for his team to come up with his lyrics, to create his image who he is, so if he freestyled the man, Marshall Mathers(like that's his real name) might not be what we think he is. Hence we don't see things like this, no public performances, no freebies, nothing. It's required, to maintain the image to maintain the money.
at it it's only ever released on mp3 form or on a DVD. He has talent, but so do you, so do I, what makes him a celebrity is that he thinks he is the best, his manager and the people making money off him keep telling him he's the best, and this makes him easy to manipulate.

On a different note. The music which is produced by "Dr. Dre", "Shady Records", "aftermath", "Sony" and others is brilliant, it's on the cutting edge. The few albums that have already been released have almost single handedly changed the face of an entire genre and propelled it forward at a million miles an hour. 10 years ago there would NEVER be more than 5 R'n'B, Rap, and/or Hip-Hop songs on the charts. Now they are starting to dominate and consistently these songs are reaching number one. 50 cent is my example, Nelly, J-lo, P.diddy, Neptunes and the like all ride the wave of the Eminem Empire. The music is brilliant bar a few songs, i'd like to meet the people who made the music.
