There have always been women on sciforums. Although I dislike onslaughts of slurping clitorides, I have to admit that women have always been some of the smartest members. Xev's been here for ages, Satyr is a woman and has been here for ages. Well, I don't count because I am half man. Sciforums is a matriarchal society in case you haven't noticed.

Earlier this year I did something unheard of since I was a child: I kicked someone out of my life permanently. Now, there are a number of reasons for this, but when we cut through the whole thing, the truth is that he was simply annoying, and one night when I was exceptionally tired, he showed up at my door and gave me a reason.

However, he is an interesting case. I bent over backwards tolerating his eccentricities in large part because, quite literally, he can't help himself. Nonetheless, I didn't like going out for a drink with him in large part because we have vastly differing ideas about women.

Imagine a guy who looks kind of like a potato. Really. His head is sort of potato shaped, his body is sort of potato shaped, and while most days you find him wearing threadbare sweatpants and a sweat-stained, faded, tattered t-shirt, when he went out he dressed for the occasion: leather jacket, Tommy Bahama shirt, fine slacks, cowboy boots, gold chain, and hideous cologne to top it off.

Now, I'm familiar with the old, bitter chauvinism by which all women are bitches and cunts, and this guy is one of those. He's the kind of guy who tries to find a reason to not pay a hooker, and then wonders how low someone has to be to put a brick through his window:

For the next two minutes, I sat at a table across from a reasonably attractive woman and just grinned sheepishly, chuckled at the table, and shook my head sympathetically. Two minutes. The ladies excused themselves for the bathroom, and disappeared from the joint. Mr. Potato, after about five minutes, said, "Goddamn bitches. They're all cunts, you know." And then he got up, went out to the dance floor, and I'll spare us all any attempt to describe what passed for dancing. Nonetheless, he attempted to chat up some woman, and I have no idea how he opened, but it only took fifteen seconds for her to bolt. And I heard the phrase for the nth time: "Bitches and cunts," he told me when he returned to the table. I heard that phrase over and over that night, as I did almost any time I was around him. I heard it when, calling around for a prostitute at 4:00 AM, nobody was answering. He actually woke one woman up, and she refused to travel sixty miles at four in the morning for a throw. He didn't miss a beat. "So can you hook me up, man? Something good this time? Not like that shit you gave me last time."

One, two, three, four. That's four errors in dealing with your dealer, right off the bat. The sad joke is that he expected me to drive. It wasn't so much that I didn't trust his dealer, but that I wouldn't have blamed the dealer for shooting us both. In all my years of using drugs, I've never seen a client so damned annoying. Coke dealers, it seems, are another league entirely. Pot dealers wouldn't even put up with that kind of crap.

No drugs, though. He could call later, during sane hours.

So the next night the potato showed up at my door again, shit-eating grin on his face: "C'mon. Let's go pick up some bitches ...."

I've known for a while that I don't like the stuff, and I've known for most of that time that I'd still do it. This is, of course, one of the biggest signs of addiction around.
