Today is election day in the US and turnout is reported as very high for a midterm election. Did you you vote? Did you have a long wait? How did the turnout compare with previous years, especially midterm elections? Did you have any problem voting? I personally was out before sunrise to cast my vote. My polling site had about 50 people lined up outside before it even opened. I had about a half an hour wait, which was probably the longest I've ever had to wait in a midterm election (usually there's no wait at all for midterm elections). Some polling sites in my town are reporting an hour to an hour and a half wait. How are things going where you live?
Many states have early voting in which up to a month before the actual election you can go down and cast your vote during the day. There's also absentee ballots which can be sent to you by mail and you don't have to go anywhere to vote. I understand that here in Florida there was many who voted early and quite a few people have absentee ballots as well. So turn out here is more than usual for the mid term election.
Polling place was almost empty when I went at midday. From the look of the sign-in sheet, everybody had requested mail-in ballots (I was the only name on the entire page not so-listed). Also a big chunk of the residents of my zip code are foreign nationals, so that surely cuts down on the lines as well...
I voted. was pretty much empty I was in and out in like 5 minutes but than agin lines aren't usually bad in rich area like where I live
Election Results 2010 So far, Indiana has been called for Dan Coats. This is a Republican pick up. Also, Kentucky has been called for Rand Paul. Another Republican pick up. Overall, Exit polls are calling for hey 50 + seat pick up in the house and a 7 + seat pick up in the Senate
Kentucky was, but the race was closely watched due to Rand Paul's connection to the Tea Party and his father. Indiana, on the other hand, is a net pick up because Dan Coates will be taking over Democrat Evan Bayh's seat. PS Fox is now projecting a 60 seat pick up in the House for the Republicans, which would exceed 1994's 54 seat gain and would be the largest gain by any party since 1938.
Also, when I went to vote, it was pretty well empty. The lady at the desk said that it had been slow all day AND that (for those of you who remember the Ohio voting debacle caused by a lack of voting places and stations within the places) Ohio increased the number of voting locations. The voting "computers" were mothballed in Cuyahoga Cty (where I vote) and they went to the scantron paper ballots, and increased by twofold the number of voting locations. My boyfriend--who works the BOE in Medina Cty said that they kept the voting computers, but there was no issue with a lack of voting places in '08. ~String
Do you live in a Republican or Democratic area? In Indiana we're getting reports of large turnouts in Republican areas (like where I live) and light turnouts in Democratic ones (such as Indianapolis)..
Its sad to see that for all the chest beating, hand on heart, "patriotism" in the US, most people (on both sides) can't be bothered with the only requirment citizenship requires of you, ie to vote. Its also sad to see that people don't even seem to understand that you don't vote FOR the "best" government, you got AGAINST the worst. I hope that those who didn't vote or "abstained" don't criticize the government you get stuck with in anyway. It would just be hypocritical
Come on!!!! Whaddaya talkin about!? You know where I live: Cuyahoga Cty (Cleveland). You have heard of this guy called Kucinich, haven't you? ~String
Asguard, what are you talking about? They are projecting the highest voter turnout for a midterm election in years. I agree.
