View Full Version : Elderly handyman glued himself to his roof...
:roflmao:
Passers-by were so shocked to see the elderly handyman working on the roof they first thought he was planning to commit suicide, according to police in the eastern city of Magdeburg.
"In fact he was just re-coating the roofing with bitumen. But then he slipped," said a spokesman for police.
"When we got there, he was like a beetle on its back, with his arms and legs sprawled out and completely glued to the roof," he added. "Due to his age, he couldn't free himself from his unfortunate situation."

I know it is not funny, but the mental image of this poor old guy stuck to his roof had me laughing like a lunatic.
Poor old guy. Just the thought of the people driving by thinking at first he was about to kill himself, and then having him slip and get himself stuck to the roof like a blowfly...
Heh!
It is basically the kind of thing you'd see in a slapstick comedy.
I think pregnancy has made me mean.. lol..

vslayer 03-14-07, 01:26 AM are you sure you werent subconciusly taking a jab at the cane guy when you laughed at this poor old man?
Lord Hillyer 03-14-07, 02:53 AM Yet more evidence that supports all my opinions about the universe.
Sock puppet path 03-14-07, 03:15 AM I think "handyman" is something of a misnomer in this situation.
redarmy11 03-14-07, 04:08 AM I know it is not funny, but the mental image of this poor old guy stuck to his roof had me laughing like a lunatic.
Then it was funny. And still is.
Long may you continue reading the downmarket papers and posting the funniest bits on here.http://www.sciforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif
are you sure you werent subconciusly taking a jab at the cane guy when you laughed at this poor old man?
No.
This story just struck me as hilariously funny. On a positive note, had he not fallen in the bitumen, he would have probably slid or rolled off the roof and possibly killed himself. Instead the bitumen just kept him stuck in place like a fly stuck to fly paper... :roflmao:
Small things and small minds I guess lol..
Baron Max 03-14-07, 06:37 AM Odd thing, indeed. I've worked with bitumen as a roof waterproofing on many occassions. Bitumen is not like that in such things as a roofing material. In it's liquified state, it's sticky as hell, but like molasses, not like glue. It also doesn't harden so fast as this would have taken.
Again, Bells, I think you've found a link that's more hoax than real. He couldn't have gotten stuck like that.
Baron Max
Humm, let's try that with you when/if you reach 91 years.

redarmy11 03-14-07, 06:48 AM Intriguing, Baron. So I took extraordinary steps to investigate further. Namely...
I clicked the link:

A 91-YEAR-OLD German man sparked a rescue operation when he slipped mending his roof and got stuck fast in tar "like a beetle on its back", police said on Tuesday.
...
"Due to his age, he couldn't free himself from his unfortunate situation."
Ninety-one!???
Climbing rooves and he's ninety-fucking-one!???
Put this lunatic in an old people's home - NOW!!!

Ah as I would have expected. Baron the idiot savant naysayer rears his ugly head. Yes Baron, it is sticky and most people would have been able to lift themselves out of it. But this elderly man was 91 years old. As the firemen who had gone there to save him said:
"Due to his age, he couldn't free himself from his unfortunate situation."
Local firemen carefully detached the man using ropes and ladders. He was unharmed, but had sticky clothes, police said.
Get it? He's an old man who got stuck in what you admit yourself to be very sticky. He simply did not have the strength to free himself.
And if you wish to send www.news.com.au (national internet news site for Australia) a complaint in regards to their posting hoaxes on their site, I am sure they will be more than willing to hear you out.:) You might also wish to tell www.cnn.com that their stories are also hoaxes, as they also reported on this poor old man's unfortunate accident. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/03/13/germany.rescue.reut/index.html
Oh and before you accuse me of posting hoaxes, I'd advise you to have proof of it first. KK? Good.

Yeah, I get it. And that's exactly what I said before .....the bitumen had nothing to do with it, and he did NOT "glue" himself to the roof. I was just old, tired and weak so when he fell, he couldn't get up.
The bitumen had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with it ........and yet, the post title says that "glued himself" to the roof .....which is a big, major, sensationist, fuckin' LIE!!!
Baron Max

Did he stick into the tar?
Yes.
Does glue stick?
Yes.
Hmmmm...
I did not say he "set" himself into the tar on his roof.
He got stuck in the sticky tar on his roof and because of his age, he was unable to get up from it. Therefore, one could say he had effectively glued himself to his roof when he fell over since he was stuck to it as one would stick to glue.
Can you see the connection? Can you wrap your mind around it? Try. It is really easy to connect those little dots Baron. I am sure if you set your mind to it, you could too.
Hell, even CNN saw the connection and this was the title to the story when they reported it:
Police save man, 91, glued to roof (http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/03/13/germany.rescue.reut/index.html)

PS. Stop trolling this thread and trying to flame it Baron.
Baron Max 03-14-07, 07:45 AM Did he stick into the tar?
No! He just happened to be lying in it when they found him.
He got stuck in the sticky tar on his roof ...
No! He was too tired to move ....and just happened to be laying in the tar. It would have been the same condition if he'd just been laying on the roof with no tar anywhere.
Bells, I know about this roofing tar ....please believe me, one does NOT get stuck in it like glue! It's like molasses ...oozing, gooy crap, but it's not glue!
You've just picked on a sensationalist headline and now you're trying to make it into something that it's not. The news did it for sensationalism, to sell newspapers. But why are you so hot to defend that sensationalims?????

Bloody hell! You'd think I had killed your puppy by the way you are reacting to this. Get a life!
Local firemen carefully detached the man using ropes and ladders. He was unharmed, but had sticky clothes, police said.
The story reported that those who saw him fall in it and those who rescued him said he was stuck in place on his roof. You wish to tell them that tar is like "molasses" and not like glue? Email them or call them and tell them they are wrong.
I am sure that since they were there first hand, they would have no idea what they saw or dealt with. But you, the idiot savant of tar, back in Texas, having worked with tar in the past knows more than they do or what they saw when they got to the old man and got him down from his roof.

Baron Max 03-14-07, 11:58 AM Ya' know ...I always wonder how I should react to some of the posts on this site. The way y'all are going on about it/me, makes me think that y'all think I should just accept anything that's posted ....not question it, not ask about, not attempt to explain it, ......just accept it.
Is that the way you want me to be and do? Accept everything that's posted as true and factual? And, of course, make no comments whatsoever?
