Today, parts of Wales and the Midlands were hit by an earthquake. For detailed info, go here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2275158.stm I found out from a friend who lives in that area (he slept right through it, typical Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! ) and at first I was like 'Nah, you're lying, quit telling me porkies, rubbish'. Then I did a search, and CRAP, there it was. I know its not a major Earthquake like in San Fran or Kobe, but this doesn't happen very often
While my neck of the woods is not prone to earthquakes there seems to be a buried and deep fault not to far away. It has been a long time since it has been active. It is thought that somewhere in the next 100 years or so it may show its head again. It is unusal as it is in the center of the plate and not along the edges of a plate. This is something kind of foreign to my experiences. It is just hard for me to understand that the ground and shake and roll under you, even having seen footage and talked to people who have been through such. I guess it is one of those things you have to live through.
I was a little over 100 miles from San Francisco during the 7.1 magnitude quake of '89. It was amazing, for about a minute the street outside my house looked like rolling water - the pavement moving in waves. Never seen anything like it.
