Today the Dutch goverment resigned. Reason for this is that one of the coalitionpartners were unable to work as a team resulting in fights among the party.

Just for the ones who would have liked to know

Can you explain some more. What do you mean 'resign'?

Did they all quit?

Bachus
10-16-02, 05:00 AM
Yes they sort of quit and we have to elect them again (in January i think) Untill then they are considered a (demissionair) goverment and can't make big decisions (that is what i got from it anyhow hopefully another Dutch person can explain it better).

So for the time being, you have no government?

Pretty much however i think they still keep doing their daily tasks (whatever that is)

I don't think they'll give up Golf that easily :D

So what you are saying is....That a tempory govenment will be in place until Janurary when you have to vote everyone back in and it will probably be the guys who were there or the temp guys

Much strangeness

No, the same people stay on but can't make any decisions (they are just there to keep stuff running). In January we can elect again (the party that caused all this comotion dropped from 20+ seats to 7 seats or something) so we will get something else as a goverment.

Thor

O....k, but who make the desicions then. Is that the temps job?

Bachus

no decisions will be made (well small ones will be) but they can't vote on lawchanges and such.

No i was not allowed to vote for them (my iq was higher then 2) ;)

That book will be pretty easy to write.

tnx lol :D

there's a lot of criticism about Balkenende.. weird.. if anyone else had to do his job, they would've failed too.. maybe even worse!

the LPF is just a bunch of arguing idiots.. no one could've worked with them!

Bachus
10-16-02, 09:21 AM
IMNSHO, Balkenende did a reasonably job. I don't see what he could have done to prevent this. Ah well CDA was on 51  seats according to the polls so he will become president again :)

Frieda
10-16-02, 09:23 AM
i agree. Balkenende did what he could.

where did you get the poll information?

Bachus

Don't know they did mention something on www.fok.nl

Just did a quick search but couldn't find it anymore :(

I gotta learn Dutch.

;) apparently German, dutch, and Frissian are the closest relatives of the english language. Crazy huh? Here i thought english was always derived from latin...although it's actually derived from Old Norse. So it shouldn't be that hard to pick up Dutch..

From what i read anyway...if i'm wrong, yell at me!:D

new forum rule:

No jokes in Dutch! :D

just kidding..but what did that all mean? Or do we have to be familiar with dutch politics to get the jokes?

"I know nothing, say nothing, do nothing"..?

Frieda
10-16-02, 01:55 PM
yep, that's "the policy" of the dude on the cover of that book. it's partially his fault that the government has resigned. i'll try to find a website in english that explains the whole situation.
