I rescently downloaded a program that would only work with DOS. How could I exit Windows Me, or is there some other way to run that program? The message I get when trying to aunch the program is

"[program name] is a DOS product. You must be in a full DOS mode to play the game."

    Any help is much appreciated!

Unfortunately ME was one of the first altered states of windows that removed most of the way that Windows had previously been written on top of DOS.

This doomed most full DOS games to needing people to pick up a version of DOS seperately to be able to run the program.

You could download a copy of DOS, perhaps even something like Quarterdecks QUEMM to be able to load DOS drivers up so you have more than 512k to execute the program, however it can take alot of mucking around to get it all to work (and will require loading up mouse, soundcard, modem DOS drivers etc)

However if you have a decent enough computer, one that has alot of RAM and a high processor, then the alternative option is to use an Emulator.

    DOSBox 0.61
Is an emulator I've tested out and had working before, I tested previously on a Win98 PII 450Mhz laptop and it was able to run some games (although not too fast), it worked far better with greater systems (750Mhz+)

    Hope that aids.

Thanks a bunch, I will try that out. I hope a 633 Mhz comp will handle it.

The game doesn't seem to work because of a "missing or invalid 386FX.something driver"

I have no idea what that means. But it doesn't seem like a problem with the emulator.

Are you using a front-end for DosBox? I just happened to download it yesterday to play a little old-school ultima. D-fend is killer for a front-end. Don't have to configure it and mount the drives and all that.

There's another that's recommended for a more bare-bones front end that might be useful on a low-spec system like yours. Check out their wikipedia page. There's a link to it on the DosBox site somewhere. Hell, there's probably links directly to the front-ends on there too.

Not sure about your particular error. Have you searched for the error?

633 mHz is a bit sparse. Even OLD dos games and programs tend to use 100% cpu usage on my 1.2 laptop. Haven't tried on my 1.6 pc. But, I bet it'd be the same. It would be nice if they could figure out how to emulate Dos more efficiently.
