Concern at Thai drug crackdown (BBC) We hear the legalization rhetoric in the US and elsewhere, but what are we supposed to think of this? After all, what's one dealer, more or less? :m:, Tiassa Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
That's what I call a "war on drugs" (is the CIA still running Thailand?). I'm sure we'll find out if war is the answer (again).
I saw this documentary last night here on SBS. Bangkok is going nuts on some new drug, 1/4 of people there are hooked on it, and they just kill the dealers. Something to consider: Dealers of harmful illegal drugs place their own personal material gain above the welfare of other individuals and their society in general. The do, in fact, prey upon society so they can gain a few bits of paper. Such being the case, can we still consider them members of our society? Do they have any right to the protections our society offers its citizens? If so, why? If not, why not kill them?
Considering that most Thai police chiefs buy their way to the top through bribery, financed of course by taking bribes, there will be more than a few wanting to make an appearance of never having had anything to do with naughty drug types. And an expedient way to do this, over and above a shooting here and there, is that the people shot are those in the know. In Thailand, this could equally apply as a question regarding those procuring/profiting from prostitution, particularly child prostitutes.
