Maybe you had seen its pre-released demo,
    I don't like it.
    Too many changes.
It looks like more windows on the desktop for you to click.
    Everything looks square.

The new OS is a great improvement from the decades old approach. If you are one of those type of people that couldnt give up Windows 95 till 2010, well... yeah there is not much we can do for you. Change happens.

From the server side of thing, so far it looks like a massive improvement. They will be by default dropping the useless resource eating GUI, and have introduced over 2500 commands. (they basically emulating linux).

Windows 7 , to me, has done a very good job of making Windows XP better than it was. I still use XP but have 7 on my second desktop and use it from time to time, usually not on line. XP was by far the best OS that they have made and 7 only adds a little upgrades from XP so keep XP if you don't want to spend money for little improvements.

until I use Windows 8, I will not know whether it is nice or not?
    usually I use Windows 7 70%, Ubuntu 30%.

Windows 8 is focused on touch screen much more than the mouse. That means you will likely need to get a touch screen monitor when it becomes the standard because using the mouse will be a pretty shitty experience (as it is right now).

Unless you're a developer with an MSDN subscription, I am not sure if you can. Your best bet is to contact Microsoft and ask.

I believe only developers preview is currently available. You can get that here:
    http://www.windows8update.com/download-windows-8-beta/

The site also allows you to monitor beta user releases.

-At least it says this stuff is available, I don't have a spare machine right now to download and install.

Edit: Here is the link at Microsoft...

    Edit 2: Youtube demo

I don't believe you have to spend money for this, if that's what you're asking.

Here is an excerpt from the Microsoft site:
I don't necessarily think this is something you should do right now though, unless you have spare PC's laying about. If I were you I would wait until at least the first user release, and they are always extremely buggy.

I do not know how computer savvy you are, but believe me, it takes some expertise to fool with prerelease windows operating systems - and lots of patience...

    I have a problem with Windows 7.
In other versions of Windows, when the system locks, you can use the tried and trusted turn it off and then turn it on again, solution but in 7 that causes me huge problems.
Is that Windows 7, my Computer ( a Compaq), or something else?
If other people are having the same kind of problems it could be a reason why they are going on to 8 so quickly.

What problems does this cause for you exactly because I'm an early adopter (i.e. I had on my computer like a month after it came out) and I've never had such an issue.

No I've not seen anything like that. Using 32 bit version at home and 64 bit version at work. Seems very robust as far as coping with a hard shutdown.

    Oh thanks.
Must be a problem with my Compaq.
It goes onto an options screen, and then freezes while rebooting Windows.

Does it freeze before, or after the windows loading screen and what not comes up (i.e. does it freeze in the bios, or when windows is coming up)?

No thanks. I prefer the desktop environment to the full screen PhoneOS kinda thing they are trying to push. I'm not a fan of shuffling around giant attention grabbing virtual panels in the UI. It's the whole reason I don't use windows media center.

Hopefully they package it as an "option" rather than as the only way to interact with the new windows.

Actually - some to think of it, the new desktop might be kinda cool to use in conjunction with Kinect. That environment would favor interactions done through gestures...........so maybe for a home PC, but definitely not for business.
Speaking of which, I really need to buy a Kinect.
