Every morning at around 6am my next door neighbours dogs start barking and pretty much keep going all day. I'm just about ready to shoot the f**king things. Do those electronic bark stopper devices actually work?

Sometimes but first check to see if the police can't ask your neighbors to do something or you could ask them to. Dogs can be easily trained to stop their barking without any electronic gadgets.

They only bark because they're bored outta their minds. I've been here over 2 months and i haven't seen them walk the dogs once.

Get some pet welfare organisation on his ass. Happy, well fed, well trained dogs don't bark all day.
Mine lounge around, yawning, and licking their balls pretty much. Occasionally, they stare out of the windows, before resuming the lounging. Mind you, mine get walked twice a day at least. I hate people that keep dogs and don't walk them. If they haven't got time to look after a dog properly, don't get one.

I would suggest some good ear plugs. Or go walk the dogs yourself. :D
"Bark collars" work. We have a couple of very noisy Shelties and, as long as the collar batteries are good, they stop them from barking. Sensors on the collar detect the vibrations in their throats as they start to bark and deliver a mild electric shock. The dog's necks need to be shaved so the sensors have good contact with the skin. Eventually, they learn not to bark when the collars are on - Pavlov y'know.
Ours were about $40US each.

There are several municipalites in southern California (the Los Angeles region) where the law is as follows:
First offense: You have two choices. Either pay the fine, or take the dog to the vet and have him surgically debarked.
Second offense: You have no choice. You have to pay the fine and get the surgery.
People think debarking is "cruel" but the dogs really don't know the difference. They can still go through the motions of barking and they have just enough of a voice left to communicate with each other and maintain the pack hierarchy.
We breed dogs and have eleven of them. The person who said, "any dog can be trained not to bark" has never encountered a Lhasa Apso. They are dogs for cat lovers, no respect for humans at all. Virtually impossible to train to execute even common commands like "sit" and "stay." "Quiet" simply does not fall within their temperament or their IQ. Ours are all debarked. And it hasn't affected their mood or behavior at all.

They didn't bark this morning! My constant yelling "shuddup!!" must have got the msg through to the neighbors... its quiet... too quiet... i will investigate further...
Phlogistician - they look healthy enough and well fed so i dont think they're actually breaking any laws, except maybe public nuisance. I generally get on pretty well with my neighbors so i dont really want to make bad blood with them by calling the cops just yet.
Btimsah - no, its their problem, not mine. I wouldn't mind walking the big dog, he's a staffy or something, but i'd rather kick the other little rat-dog down a storm drain.
Marv - not sure i totally agree with the idea of shock therapy, besides its not me who has to agree, its them!
Fraggle - Dont know what the laws are here, but like i said to Ph, dont want get cops involved yet or make em have surgery if a little box strapped to the fence will do the same thing.
