    Go to: http://www.ip2location.com/

Scroll down till you see the example provided:

    Your IP Address is <snip>
    You're located in (CA) CANADA
You're connecting to the Internet through COGECOCABLECANADAINC

You may mask your IP of you want. Is the information provided correct? More importantly, is the country stated correct?

    Thanks!

They are offering a product that will give the country of the originating IP address. I'm trying to figure out if I should buy it.

It worked for me, too. Except for the fact that AGT is now Telus...

As mentioned in the other post,

It is easy to fraud this, all that would need to be done is to find a "proxy system" to connect with.

One method that is used for exploits I shall explain:
(And Systems Administrators of Networks should take note)

If you have a network that has a T1 connection (Or some other Business sized networking connection) and you have a lot of normal Terminals on your system, there is sometimes the problem that those systems can have internal modems and Dialers.

The problem occurs here, If someone goes through the network, and installs a dialup number on that system, they can "connect to the internet" through a Proxy, and appear to be at a different location (The network in question).

I mention this just to prove a point that buying software to find out a country code might be a way with dealing with some abuse of "asking people not to download unless from the country in question", but proves that some people will get around it.

    So save your money.

    It's pretty good!
They gave me my IP (not routable : 10.0.*.*) and my proxy (easy...).

I know you can fool it with a proxy, but less than 1% of the people knows about this and there are other security barriers to stop them.

    It works for me.

On the topic of fooling it: the proxy will have to route via your isp to the net. Trace routing back will show you a router of the isp as one of the hubs in the first few steps and thus revealing your country, or at least region, of origin. So, the only way to fool it with a dialup connection would be to actually dial a isp number in another country. This seems a bit farfetched, but still possible of course.

On a side note: does anyone know if ipv6 ranges are going to be catagorized by region as well?

Just a small note : in the Matrix, they are supposed to live nowaday...
Anyway, I don't know if it will include a regional indication but I don't think so. Not yet at least !
