View Full Version : Do You Use This Option To Surf Sciforums ? (Q) 10-16-02, 02:14 PM View New Posts Bebelina 10-16-02, 02:17 PM Nope. *stRgrL* 10-16-02, 02:17 PM Naaa Thor 10-16-02, 02:20 PM We had options??????? Stryder 10-16-02, 02:33 PM I do, reason: Every page loaded takes about 10kb (unless your Tiassa, no offense :D), if Porfiry is running to a strict bandwidth then you'd understand that all the pages amount up, and can go over the bandwidth amount allocated. For instance a 5Gb Bandwidth limit per month, is the equivalent to 500,000 page loads per month; 16,666 Per day (30 day month), 694 per hour, 11.5 per minute.) That might sound alot but if you take that I read an average of about 12-14 pages, and post about 3 messages, and there are usually about 10 active people all the time (sometimes when it peeks it touchs over 100 people), not to forget the bots like googlebot. Now if all of those people load up through the main page to the sub categories and then to pages, it increases the bandwidth more than just clicking the button for the recent posts. (I didn't swat to calculate all of this, I run my own server with an allocated bandwidth, which pretty much dictated I couldn't run a board.) Avatar 10-16-02, 02:53 PM no - the reason is I delete my cookies frequently grazzhoppa 10-16-02, 02:55 PM Does the internet cache (on your harddrive in your computer) help only your own computer with speed or does the server not send you the information you already have? This would bring the size of each downloaded page down a bit...if it was so. Stryder 10-16-02, 03:34 PM grazzhoppa I tend to run my system quite tight when it comes to cache's, in the sense that I've got it rigged to delete the cache when the browser is closed, and all cookies and pieces of cache that haven't been deleted, get deleted on reboot. (along with Temp's and a few other folders) The reason for this is just to keep my junk down to a minimum. Although the OS does cache during it's "Session" (while I have the browser open and in use). Stryder 10-16-02, 03:42 PM Thought I would just show what I use to keep my system clean, I've attached an image of a kill.bat file I use. I save it in a folder on my system, and then make an anchor in the STARTUP folder in the start bar, so it runs during startup, after the system has booted into the OS. I could have placed it seemlessly into the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, but sometimes it might be necessary to stop something being deleted, which means I can turn it off easier. odin 10-16-02, 04:21 PM Yes grazzhoppa 10-16-02, 04:41 PM thanks...I let my system do it's own thing....the internet cache is set to 967megabytes :D ...it's a bitch to clean out after awhile. wet1 10-16-02, 07:01 PM I usually let Norton take care of housecleaning internet files. History is set to 0. I look to see where people are. I can tell you that a lot of folks use the view new post. Not most but a good percentage. CounslerCoffee 10-16-02, 07:14 PM I just look at the "Who's Online" option to see what people are up to. P.S. I delete my cache and history every night with a eraser program. Is anyone else here that conpulsive? Avatar 10-16-02, 07:18 PM I once tried but it deleted stuff I didn't want. Now I have set my catche to 2000KB on Opera and live happily odin 10-16-02, 07:24 PM P.S. I delete my cache and history every night with a eraser program. Is anyone else here that conpulsive?
