Simple, when going to have your vehicle maintenance done (including repairs, regular care, etc.) do you feel confident the technician is being honest?
I'm not concerned with where you go, that's of little relevance. I'm more interested in if you do go will you trust his opinions and pay or under what conditions would you not?

Why would you go to some mechanic that you didn't trust?? That don't make no fuckin' sense at all ....even to someone like me!

I'll tell you what doesn't make any sense Baron Max, your entire comment. Pretend you don't know any mechanics, then when you go find one it will be the first time you've met. Sooooooooo like that's what I mean. Otherwise if you know a good mechanic you trust then this entire question is better applied by asking "if you can't goto your mechanic then..."
Mechanics I trust...for a biological machine am I.

No.
Mechanics have a repuation of being shysters and for good reason.
Question absolutely everything they do. Shop around, get a second opinion, etc. Call them out on things.
The poll is poor. I don't trust them nor do I distrust them. Where is the option for that?

If you don't know any mechanics you do the same thing you would do if you needed a doctor or a handyman or a cleaning lady or somebody to take care of your dog while you're on vacation. You ask your friends, the people you work with, your neighbors.
With a car you can just go around asking strangers with the same kind of car who they go to. When you find you've gotten several recommendations for the same mechanic from articulate people who can explain why they trust him, then you give him a try. Sure it's no 100% guarantee, but at least it's a rational way to increase your probability of satisfaction.
