The profound madness and sadness of corrupting the humanity in the soldier and their victims. Think of your own child having to be exposed or recruited to hate and kill another. Simple but poignant, one boy witnessing another boy being killed and he does not even hate him. It's the evil ones that have put them into that position to use them for thier purpose. War is so heartbreakingly and atrociously sad and shameful.
So? Other countries, even western ones, have that requirement as well. Israel, Finland, Brazil, Germany, Greece, South Korea too, to name a few. - N
This thread is about the atrocity of war, not a stupid contest. There is nothing pretty or good about killing. The sidenote is for idiots who think someone is gay or not a man because they are thin, sensitive or young.
Also, Austria, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine. Plus, just about every country in Europe, except for Ireland and the UK, had similar conscription policies until quite recently.

War is the state of nature. We can act like it isn't until a people who knows better decides to do away with us and our fragile sensibilities.
Knows better? It's called opportunism and their willingness to be destructive to themselves and others. And that's why we have to defend ourselves but I don't believe everyone has the same views regarding the justifications for war.
