Say what you will about imperialist control and conquest - I just wish they would be honest about it. They always bring out the old "protecting democracy" excuse and trot it around. If they just said "Hey, we're going to go murder a bunch of people, steal their land, take their natural resources, and set up a police state" then I think a lot of young Americans would definitely be up for that. If we just went over there, killed everyone, annexed the Middle East...imagine all the problems that would solve! We could drive SUVs forever!!!

nope. kids are nice! not like cheney, bush or rumsfeld. they are the real culprits.
follow the money and you will get a partial explanation of why shit is going down the way it is!

ps: that and the cognitive dissonance experienced by the masses

The European empires in the 1800s didn't operate under such pretension when THEY were conquering the globe, and their people didn't seem to mind.

sure they did. some guises - "civilizing the savages", "saving their heathen souls", ....... there were many uplifting and noble excuses given for the plundering of the third world

oh.... "burn the village in order to save it"( or something like that)
that was vietnam tho i think
anyway............ you were saying?

re-conquered.

Then, …it was done brutally and primitively. Now, we are civilized and do it with
dishonesty, by blackmailing, with extortion, all toped with corruption and mischief.

Then, …the people seemed not to mind as we seen it from our current perspective. Now, the masses don’t seem to mind a great deal either.

…..welcome to the future!!

bullshit. there is nothing primitive about systematically looting the 3rd world and building palaces all across europe. brutality, like now, was covered up or denied

the only thing that seems to have changed is killing techniques (they have vastly improved!)

Personally, I would have far fewer problems with the US government if they simply said "Look, we've got all the guns and all the money, we're going to crap all over countries that don't play our game, that's all there is to it".

Of course I would still have problems with that attitude, but fewer than before.

1. I deny that we are invading anybody for profit. In fact we might bankrupt ourselves doing it.

2. If we were doing what you claim, how is that worse than what plenty of other countries have done in recent history?

profit for the masses is incidental to that reaped by bush and co. once they make their money, you might yours. trickledown is a bitch.

;) Nothing primitive about it? …..Fair enough.
Brutality, like now, was covered up or denied? …OK, but then it was feudalism and supper powers were run by decrees. No newspaper, no CNN or BBC and smoke signals didn’t work at night when people were back at home and had time to watch TV. Ops!

Killing techniques (they have vastly improved!)?? …Really? We better ask the dead!
