I have a question about directx 9.0 and before you make fun of me for not knowing what is pretty much obvious to everyone else here please remember that there are less smarter people out there than you. Is it safe for me to install directx 9.0 on my system. I have a geforce 4 ti 4600 so would installing directx 9.0 be safe or should i just leave it to directx 8.1 for now. I would install it and but after you do install 9.0 it can't be uninstalled so i don't want to take such a risk. Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance

Yep, it's safe. And will eventually be necessary for future games LOL People have got to understand, cards that only support a certain generation of DirectX, will have no problem running future versions of it, they just won't be able to make sure of hardware related features (like a new version of pixel shading, or going through the API - software related features will be used)

But god it would be nice if directx just disappeared and all developers started using OpenGL

    AMEN!!

Just reading the hype from NVidea and MS about the future and Longhorn makes me shudder. Going to start a subject posting re. Palladium and TCPA if one doesn't already exist.

Don't look now but your computer is being taken out of your control.

If anything future evolutions of Direct X have better drivers than their predecesors purely because any bugs [if they find them and actually work on them] are written out.

Also the evolution of the Drivers are to increase compaitibility with new hardware on the market.

So it should be no problem (unless you start adjusting framerates at your own peril)
