Diphenhydramine/sleep

Not sure if this goes here. Anyways, last 2 years i've been taking Diphenhydramine HCL (Benedryl) to help me sleep. I have trouble falling asleep usually.

Anyway, i was wondering how toxic is this stuff that i've been ingesting 50mg a night for 2 years? And, since the 50mg stopped helping me, would upping the dosage increase the sedative effect, give a stimulant effect, or increase toxicity?

Don't lecture me on how i shouldnt use sleepaids to help me sleep. I've tried it without the stuff (went a period of about 17 days without, tried to sleep..nothing doing).

any ideas, thoughts appreciated

i'd say ask your doctor. don't go experimenting with the stuff yourself.. you might get yourself even more addicted to it.

It's not that i'm addicting to it..it's just that i can't sleep without it! (and with it now!). LOL yes i sound like and addict, i know.

it's an anti-histamine, actually..

 

yes of course, it's also marketed over-the-counter as a sleep aid

it makes one very drowsy, especially if not used to the effects of it.
