View Full Version : Did you know this?
Did you know that in 1986 the World Court convicted America of being a war criminal for its crimes committed in Nicaragua in '83 and '84? They insisted that America face the music, and the American government refused. And the only reason that no one could enforce the decision that the World Court came to is because America is currently the foremost superpower in the world.
You can find out more about America being convicted by the World Court for its war crimes in Nicaragua at:

Agent@5 08-03-02, 04:40 PM Life is about injustices.... sucks.
postoak 08-03-02, 06:17 PM The United States attacked Nicaraguan naval bases in 1984? It mined their ports?
Lykan,
Other than in your own post, exactly where within that linked document do you find the words:
...war and/or criminal....
???
Why not let the document speak for itself and instead just send your own personal message via Western Union? ;)
Mr.G:
Thanks to find in page search courtesy google:
towards Nicaragua,
warning
warrent
;)

A: You're being hysterical.
B: Your point being?
Xev, are you blind!
His point being that the US is out to persecute war criminals such as Saddam. As always, the United States is being hypocritical.
Why should the US get away with it. I say let them be prosecuted. This is like saying you can't jail a mass-murderer just because he's a bit scary.
Thor:
Xev, are you blind!
Was that a statement or a question?
His point being that the US is out to persecute war criminals such as Saddam. As always, the United States is being hypocritical.
Was Saddam convicted of war crimes? I was not aware.
So, the US is being hypocritical. Your point being........what now?
Why should the US get away with it. I say let them be prosecuted.
Ummm, for what? The incidents Lykan linked to? I believe they were. Actually, I think this was the point of the article.....
This is like saying you can't jail a mass-murderer just because he's a bit scary.
No, it's like saying you should not drink the bong water because you will sound incoherent.
Mr.G: Thanks.
I'm guessing you're american. Figures. Only an american would say that.
The United States of America is the most hypocritical country on the face of this planet. Nuff said.
You did the crime, now do the time. You shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
Thor:
How interesting, I didn't know that homes for "special" people such as yourself had internet acess.
I'm guessing you're american.
No need to guess, sweetie pie, you can look at my location. It's under my avatar - it even says "location".
The United States of America is the most hypocritical country on the face of this planet. Nuff said.
We're up there. What's your point? Who cares if we're hypocritical?
You did the crime, now do the time. You shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
"Life is not fair. One thing I know well" --Zev.
Xev;
Fine, then don't attack Iraq. They did something wrong? So fucking what. Life isn't fair.
Tyler:
Justice's very existance depends on its enforcement. It's a pity America was not properly punished for this, but such is life.
What does this have to do with Iraq?
Nothing, I'm just giving an example. Want another?
Afghanistan. They held terrorists that killed your innocent? Oh well, life ain't fair.
Want an older example? Iraq Part One. They invaded an innocent people? Okay then. Life's not fair. Don't give us the right to attack them, because life ain't fair.
All I'm trying to tell you is that this is not something to be shrugged off as 'ah well, life ain't fair'. However, I don't believe it's something to debate either. America should have been punished, they weren't, they aren't about to be now. It's just something that should be taught in American or Western 20th Century history classes in public high schools.
Tyler is correct
If the US can get away with screwing over other countries, over countries can do the same back. Tit for tat.
America being all for justice when they are wanted felons
Thor:

Agreed.
What's your point?
Tyler:
All I'm trying to tell you is that this is not something to be shrugged off as 'ah well, life ain't fair'.
I give the hell up.
Xev, can you do me one favour. STOP SAYING WHATS YOUR POINT.
Its there, my point is written down.
If you don't get the point, here it is. America shouldn't really retaliate to actions that they have done themselves.
I'm not saying that 9/11/01 was a good thing and totally fair, far from it. It was very bad and quite unexpected coming from a country that the US supported when they were being attacked by the Reds.
I just think that America should be brought to justice, being lovers of justice themselves
"I give the hell up"
Okey dokey. I still don't even know what your point is. Either you're shrugging it all off as "life ain't fair" or you agree that America should be forced to pay. You've stated both feelings.
Thor:
Xev, can you do me one favour. STOP SAYING WHATS YOUR POINT.
What's the point? :p
I'll stop now.
America shouldn't really retaliate to actions that they have done themselves.
So if Germany was invaded by Russia, they shouldn't defend themselves because they invaded Russia in '41?
I just think that America should be brought to justice, being lovers of justice themselves
I think it is too late for this, it has been 15 years. But I agree in principle.
Tyler:

I shrug nothing off. In a perfect world, America (if it was truely guilty, it looks that way) would have been punished. This world is not perfect. It is too bad.
So what you are saying Xev is:
If a murderer commited a crime 15yrs ago and was only just caught. His crime has been wiped and he is a free man.
I think not. A crime sticks until proven innocent :p
I generalized the word ACTION. You took it to litereally
Neutrino_Albatross 08-05-02, 01:57 PM It is just a fact of nature that powerful contries can do pretty much wahtever the hell they want to simlpy because there is no one with enogh power to stop them. At the moment america happens to be the worlds most powerful country. Its not the first one to exploit power and im sure it won't be the last. It may not be right but it is a fact.
Giskard 08-05-02, 03:33 PM thor " I think not. A crime sticks until proven innocent "
Funny, in America it is the State's burden to prove you guilty, not your burden to prove yourself innocent.
Giskard 08-05-02, 03:41 PM Neutrino Albotross "It is just a fact of nature that powerful contries can do pretty much wahtever the hell they want to simlpy because there is no one with enogh power to stop them"
Soooo true. It also applies to what goes on inside individual countries. The most recent example being Afghanistan where the local people did not have the power to stop the Taliban until the United States supplied it to them. Same goes for Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and all other dictatorships around the world. Not saying it is right, just a fact of real life.
SpyFox_the_KMeson 08-05-02, 10:39 PM Well, I'd rather live in the US, which bullies other countries, than in the third-world country being bullied, regardless of politics. :)
