View Full Version : Desktop Screenshots
Hi! Couldn't find the old desktop screenshot thread, so here's a new one.
This is also my new desktop look (http://piparmetra.net/ftp/desk3.jpg) :D
Linux Mandriva 2005, KDE 3.4

Look at me! (http://img173.echo.cx/img173/8200/deskscreenie3cb.jpg)
Just a simple background; no fancy themes or shells (or OS's), just plain old XP.
The picture itself was fun to do. Oh, and the picture is of me with a few changes, so those with weak stomaches need not apply.
And yes, I am that egotistical.

Yes, and you know why, Mandrake (now Mandriva) is the system that I don't even notice it is there.
I just use it and it works. It gives me no troubles and does everything I want.
I tried others, but they did nothing for me worth ditching Mandriva, and the latest 2005 edition is cool  , alas I upgraded it a bit to the latest KDE, made a custom (took me a few minutes in look 'n feel section) theme (as seen in my top screenshot)
edit: I see you still enjoy your transparency! :D

What app do you use to display the local temperature on your desktop?
Kweather, it's a KDE applet

Linux may look as pretty as you like, but it's an office OS.
Office OS? :D I can do, but the most advanced Photoshop things in GIMP, Quanta Plus is exellent for creating websites, avidemux and kino are great at editing videos, I can even watch the stars, planets and other stellar objects above me in real time through Stellarium (http://stellarium.sourceforge.net),
not to mention it's the OS that most programmers prefer.

p.s. If you need, I can send you the wallpaper pic in a higher quality/size. I still have the original photo on my pc.
Lets not forget celestia!

I feel so spoiled by the selection of free software. Its hard to understand why the most substandard OS is still the most popular...

Ok, fine, it's a home OS.
Photoshop and web design.... That's not even a bare minimum for me. What do you call "advanced" in Photoshop?
I don't think this is for 'desktop screenshot' thread.
Google for: Gimp+2.2+photoshop+differences
Besides you are free to use whatever you want. I don't care you have linux, osx, solaris or windows.
Yamayama 06-10-05, 09:14 PM Some of those shots are quite cool! I still have to get transparency working myself, but in the meantime, here is a single screenshot (..I'm using Fluxbox on Slackware 10.1):
