US won't rule out force in Pakistan
Push against Al Qaeda may backfire, some say
By John Donnelly, Globe Staff | July 23, 2007
WASHINGTON -- President Bush's homeland security adviser said yesterday that the United States was prepared to take additional measures, including military force, to curb Al Qaeda's operations in remote regions of Pakistan.

Amidst reports that the US did not rule out military incursions into Pakistan's tribal areas to weed out terrorist elements, a pro-Taliban tribal leader has warned any new such operation in the region at the behest of the US would lead to division among the Pakistanis.
In a statement issued by his spokesman from an unknown location in South Waziristan, Baitullah Mahsud has asked the Pakistan government and army to respect the peace accord signed with him in 2005 and refrain from its violation by moving fresh troops into the tribal region.
"Any new military operations in South and North Waziristan at the behest of the US would create divisions among the Muslims and Pakistanis and harm Pakistan," Mahsud said.
"The infidels are a threat to Pakistan and the rest of the Islamic countries and Muslims must unite to meet the challenge," he said.
"However, President Bush's threat to use force in tribal areas together with Pakistani military cannot browbeat the 'Mujahideen' as they had fought them in the past and would fight them again," Mahsud was quoted as saying by The News.

This must mean Osama is no longer hiding in Pakistan.
In The Princess Bride, the joke was, "Never get into a land war in Asia."
You would think Americans would have learned. For all the time we spent variously chuckling and fuming at the Russian disaster in Afghanistan, you'd think we could have figured out that the next rule on the list is to never get into a war of attrition with Arab Muslims, or anyone else who looks forward to dying.
Seriously, when the dust is settled and people look over the field, they will see the bodies piled high and say, "Oh, how horrible." And then the leaders on high will respond, "But they just kept coming at the guns." And the people will look back at their leaders and say, "All you had to do was be decent and genuine just once and we might have been able to help keep things from getting so bad." And the leaders will smirk and reply, "But you elected us, fuckers."
And the people, badly stung by the failure of their vigilance, will make the obvious choice. Since the vigilance of liberty is too time-consuming and generally boring, they will do away with liberty.
The only way the terrorists lose is when the world stops breeding them.

That is too simplistic an equation for those who think wars are still won on the battle field; they haven't yet realised that those wars were fought by soldiers not civilians.
Say for example Canada trains spcial forces, hundreds of them- NO, thousands of them.
Then these forces go and blow stuff up in other countries etc. Then Canada say 'we no know nothing'.
Is that on the right track?

Time to liberate Canada from the terrorists.:jason:

No, Canada is further down the road. Pakistan or maybe even India is next (provided they don't nuke each other first). Time to get your cross and bible out and convert to Christianity SAM!

me thinky that was an analogy:)

Pakistan is already there; and if I know the Pathans, they will keep you pretty busy for the next century. After all, they've been pissed enough about Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine; home turf will be a whole new experience for the Americans.
I won't be holding my breath.:p

A few nuclear armed ICBMs launched at strategic areas of Pakistan would keep the Pathans busy for the next 10,000 years, provided they survived the fallout. What about the civilians? Well, if the civilian population is helping the terrorists, then they should be categorized as combatants too!

Good luck.:D
PS As long as the Pakis are fighting you, they are not fighting us.

The Pakis won't be doing much fighing if they're glowing in the dark (which btw would make them better targets at night anyway!).
spidergoat 07-23-07, 12:45 PM I assure you, our special forces are already there.

Nope, though it would piss of their relatives in the US. Know how many Paki immigrants you got? Welcome to the new world of karma.
The single largest group of Muslim immigrants is from South Asia (meaning Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan).

The Washington region is home to thousands of immigrants from Pakistan, most of them longtime residents who moved here for economic reasons. They include doctors, engineers, restaurant owners and real estate moguls such as Mahmood; more recently arrived cabdrivers and gas station attendants; and hundreds of students and young technocrats on multi-year work visas.

It worked for the Japanese in WW2. I'm sure it will work for the Pakis too!
We might even have a space available in one of those camps for you too, should you decide to come and visit us!

I'll just say one thing to this: you know the Saudis? They avoid skirmishes with the Pakistanis and Afghanis, the ones who work as immigrants in their country.
If you think Japanese=Pakistanis; all I can say is, you haven't met any Pakistanis.

Yeah? We haven't nuked Pakistan yet either. Can you say the same for the Japanese?

I doubt the Americans will be nuking anyone, sooner or later.
Not unless they are ready to commit global suicide.

So a few nukes in the Pakistani mountains are going to solicit a nuclear onslaught from Pakistan the likes of which will kill the whole world?
