Thank God someone finally cleared this up:

You got to love the end quote:

"Thus, although the 270km Death Star idea results in a somewhat dense Endor, it has the virtue of canonical backing, unlike the non-existent super-trench that expands the Death Star even beyond Saxton's estimate. I choose to accept the unlikely over the non-existent."

Perhaps someone should clue this guy in. There was no death star. It was a movie. It was all non-existent.

Way too much time on his hands.

I'm amazed that all the stuff in the first movie was actually to scale in the various shots (and most in the second).

He should do a estimate on the gigashadow. That would have been more challenging.

All I can say is that the explosions that destroyed either Death Star, then, were severely understated.

Not really, when you think about it. As far as I know the Death Star didn't have a warp core, which causes a huge explosion on a ST ship. And let's not forget that the whole thing didn't explode, we see later the other movie (I can't remember the name of it right now), that only half of it remains and is being rebuilt.

I don't disagree with that, you just shouldn't say things like that.

Yeah, but not in the way that you put it.

Counsler: I thought that the second death star was a different construction, the idea being that the Empire only managed to get it half finished before the end of the movie. I suppose that building an entire planet out of refined metal is expensive.

As for the link: It doesn't matter whether it's real or not. The Vatican has their researchers as well, Star Wars is no different. These guys might have a future in the church.

Ok people read that real close, end of discussion! (aka if your still bitching about the death stars you need to get out more!)

The Death Star WAS big but just think about the STNG episode "Relics". The Dyson's Sphere enclosed an entire sun with a diameter of 186 million miles. That was the most far fetched star trek episode ever. Can you just imagine the materials it would take to build that thing?

i think that would be the whole point of including it in the episode. it beats star wars be a few hundred factors.

anyway, and i quote:
"All I can say is that the explosions that destroyed either Death Star, then, were severely understated."
followed by:
"Not really, when you think about it. As far as I know the Death Star didn't have a warp core, which causes a huge explosion on a ST ship. Well, my own personal theory is that... wait for it.... that was all they could afford on the special effects budget......... but dont take my word for it, i mean, star wars is all realism. Yes. The Force. *cough* bullshit

oh i do like the general star warss thing, but detail like this makes me start having convulsions.

Yes, I do remember the original Death Star explosion looked like someone blowing up a little model with a bunch of firecrackers... maybe it would have looked more natural if it had been exploding in someone's backyard.

Of course, finding the original cut of the movie is getting hard these days, and the new revisions have redone effects, so we may never know if the real Death Star was actually packed with gunpowder and only eight inches across.
