It just struck me that instant messaging and the internet all around must be really wicked for deaf people! I mean, wow, I never thought about it. Are there any hearing impaired people on sciforums? Come to think of it... it's almost a given.. meh. This is just a random thought I just had, and thought I would share it with you all.

You do not need to hear to send posts.......now a blind , mute who is deaf would cause a few problems!:D

It's pretty wicked for anyone really, no-one can tell if you have any problems or anything. It has its pro's and con's

A former member by the name of Brolly was partially deaf. But he couldn't type either so it kinda defeated the object of it all :bugeye:

The idea of going deaf terrifies me. If I had to chose I'd rather be anything but deaf... Imagine, never being able to hear music again. Ever.

I would hate to lose either of my senses

Hearing - No music as you said
Sight - Not being able to see my loved ones, or watch any more cool films
Taste - No more bubblegum for me
Smell - I love the smell of pizza
Touch - I just like to fiddle with things

I need all of my sense to be happy :(

Agreed, but I think music would be by far the worst to lose.

do any of you people, when sitting at the keyboard typing to other's on this site, ever try to imagine what the other people's voices sound like...i mean, do you ever hear their voices inside your head, for example, i try to put a pitch and accent to Adam's and such.....oh, well, nevermind....that sounded kinda flakey...forget all about the voices thingy...and, no...i never hear any voices in my head. yikes...i wish that guy would shut up. :D

I do kind of assign voices to everyone. based on percieved personality or who you remind me of. most people don't make a huge impression so get a generic voice. certain more prolific posters have voices that go along with their percieved personality.

on going deaf. I couldn't handle that. I once stupidly tried to go with out music for 3 weeks while on vacation. that lasted for maybe 4 days, and i just couldn't handle it and went out and bought a CD player and a few CD's just so i could listen to something.

exactly!!! that is what i was trying to put across - about trying to imagine what some of the posters here might sound like in real life. you stated it much more coherently than i, however.:D

I could survive without my sight. It would be awful. Might not be able to earn a living. I'd be depressed. But I could survive.

But without music there is no life.

Interesting that so many of you feel the same way. Nice community to be part of.
