Pine_net - I'd heard of that, I've also heard of badger tunnels being built under motorways/highways so they don't try to cross in front of the cars. Don't know how successful they are though.

They aren't native to the US:( But mine was an African Pygmy Hedgehog. Very cute.:D

Aww :( :( :( How long did she live? I thought they only lived about 5 years anyway? I'm sure you gave her an easy and comfortable life. :)

She was about 3 or 4, so she was getting on in years. She had a big cage and a little wooden box for a house. there was a hole in the side so she could get in and out, and the top slid off so you could remove her. She had little blankets inside, and at night we would let her roam around on the inside porch. During the winter she would huddle in the corner where 2 of the heat registers met and would sleep there under a washcloth. Strangely enough, she wouldn't eat mealworms, and so we made her meatballs with catfood in them instead, which she liked very much. I want another one.:(

Just imagine the cats expression after the first time he tried to take a bat at it!:eek: I have a cat who's 17 years old, human years! In very good shape for her age. Her name is Sarah.:) And I have a Siberian husky/bordercollie mix dog named Ike, after the husky my dad had as a kid. He has the widest array of facial expressions that I have ever seen on a dog. It's like he's a human in funny suit.:) I also have 2 turtles (a painted turtle and a mud turtle) that I caught down at my family's camp ages ago. I used to have fish, but the turtles slowly hunted them down and ate them.:(

Whoa, my cat's only about... 5? Thought looking a little worse for wear, due to all the fighting. :( (But he can take it!! He's a MAN cat!! :p ) I woldn't mind having a dog too, but I think my cat might mind. ;) And WOW, you have turtles too? You are so lucky!! LOL at the turtles eating fish - I think you have a talent for story telling! I have fallen in love with all your pets, past and present. :p

My sister's cat is 20 years old, a Tonkanese. She had diabetes, and got over it. The vet said 40% of that type of cat who develop diabetes simply get over it eventually. Since then she's had a stroke, and is stone deaf. But still going strong otherwise. Weird beasty.

The fish were from the camp, too. A whole bunch of smelt. It got down to there only being one left, which managed to evade the turtles for a week or so until its unfortunate demise. Sometimes I find duckweed (puny little floating water plants, each about the size of a grain of rice) and put a bunch in the turtle tank. It disapears quickly. Can't wait till this weekend. I'm going to be going to be going back to the camp. There's a sandbar of sorts in a corner of the lake that has little tiny toads about half an inch long on it. they're grey with 4 orange spots. It's real nice there; one of the few places I feel entirely at peace. *sigh* bliss. bliss is good.:) I'll probably be doing a 6 mile run while i'm there too. Gotta keep training for X-country season!

Ooh, Tonkanese? Haven't heard of that, do you have a photo? (either of you cat, or of a random Tonkan. :p) Do you know if deaf cats are supposed to be at all significantly different from ... non deaf cats? A friend of mine has a deaf cat (She's 100% white, and apparently in these types of cats deafness is common?)

You don't seem to like her? Or should I take "weird" and "beasty" in a good way? :)

Edit - Lesion42; heh, we posted at the same time. :p I used to have fish too, but they died pretty quickly. I was really young though. Hope you have fun at camp though - couldn't you get more fish and like, keep them in a seperate tank (from the turtles) or something? :confused:

I might have the spelling wrong, might be Tonkinese. Cross between Siamese and Burmese or some such. I like it, she's a groovy cat. I just call many things beasties now and then. I prefer that cat to the Siamese ones - especially those that have no (or v little) fur. :)

There is a siamese at the kennel I work at. She has more hair than most, and really huge eyes. she always hides between the wall of her enclosure and her litter box.:)

My family also has a 5-year-old cat who still tries to prretend she's a kitten. My sister and mother have three standard poodles. There are nine or ten horses. And because a creek runs through the farm, we get all sorts of wild birds visiting and nesting there.

Adam - I have a cat who I pretend is a kitten. :p He's really beautiful, and not especially small, but I still pick him up and pet him as much as I did when he was a kitten, though I think he prefers to either be fighting or sleeping rather than being petted by me. :) Sometimes I get small birds in my garden, but generally the only birds I get are the ones that eat the fruit on my fruit trees in my garden! :mad:

Adam-- I've taken care of a lot of poodles at the kennel, and they've all been black.:confused: they've all been really friendly except one who almost took a chunk out of my hand. I've only been bit once this summer. I guess I'm lucky.:) What are yours called?

Lesion...I have to ask: do you enjoy the...the k-kennel? I used to work there and it was sheer, constant misery. I vowed that I would never pick up dog crap again. But that vow has been broken every time I've been sent to clean out the back yard.

Firefly: I'm just curious, you can never tell about someone's sex unless they actually PROCLAIM it, so generally I just chauvenistically (if that's a word) assume that everyone who becomes what I call an 'avid' member is a male unless I know otherwise (like if their name is girlgirl123). You should start exercsizing your power as a female here, Xev already controls vast hordes of minions.

Yes, Pollux, I am enjoying the kennel. I'm only a 5 minute run away from it, and I get the middle of the day off. Plus I got a raise to $7 an hour. Maybe you did slightly different stuff than I do?:confused:

Yes, but it's not so bad if you just don't breath through your nose, and do a quick walk around the perimeter, then give the center a quick check. Plus you get used to it. It's the worst part of the job. The rest is almost blissful.:D

Pollux - I kind of do the same, assume everyone is a guy, though I did think Firefly was a kinda "female" name. Though the mistake has been made before, and will probably be made again. :p

Lesion42 - Do you have to have a rabies shot or anything? What kind of dogs go there? Homeless ones, or those who's owners are on holiday?

Minions - I figure each to their own, don't really wanna start up a cat fight with Xev, but I'm slowly building up an army anyway. the fact that you're reading this means that I now claim you as my own minion. :) I just thought it would be... harder, thought I'd have to infiltrate some kind of clique. But you're all really friendly. :)

I don't need shots. All owners must provide proof of recent vaccination for various infectious whatsits before their dog will be boarded. The event will make for a good story though.:D

- Kira, the huge black freak.
- Lucy, the smart brown one half Kira's size.
- Britt, little white one a tad smaller than Lucy.

As for minions, Firefly, I'm really pathetic about women, and am automatically the minion of any and every female who pays me even the slightest attention.

We also used to have sheep, and in those days there actually were wild kangaroos passing through now and then.

Adam-- Weird. There was a black pain-in-the-butt poodle named kira at the kennel. She was with a German Shepard named Kobi, and he would never stop yapping.:eek:

I loooove squirrels tales, watching them run and stop, and their tails kinda catch up, it's soo cool. :)

There aren't as many grey squirrels in my area as there used to be.:( I like them the best.

I actually know a good place in my area to go squirrel spotting, but I never get to go there. :( Might actually try though, cos of this thread. :p
