Is the region of a DVD drive stored on the drive or the computer? If I have a laptop with a removable DVD drive, could I buy two drives and set one to the American region and one to the European region?

Nasor 12-20-04, 12:59 AM I thought most computer DVD drives were region free? teguy 12-20-04, 01:02 AM jwsiii It is stored in your dvd drive. Rather than installing two dvd roms, I suggest that you download an appropirate "firmware" so as to make your existing dvd rom region free. My Toshiba dvd rom is now all-region compatible. You can search firmware at: http://forum.rpc1.org/index.php?sid=baacbe08d533a43f59626ede699da0ca Remember - you have to know the exact model of your dvd rom. best, Stokes Pennwalt 12-21-04, 09:35 PM Also, most drives allow you to change the region 3-4 times over the life of the drive. There is a way around this limitation though. If you download the firmware and re-flash the drive (see teguy's post above mine) it resets the region-change counter to 0 and you can start doing it again. It's pretty lame, but it works. |
