I have a conspiracy-buff friend of mine that is sure that the US has a DNA-sniffing satellite, (he says some guy he knows was killed after he helped developed the technology, an ex-musician).

I find it hard to believe, no evidence of its earlier use against Osama, Saddam or others. But, if it’s true, now would be the time to use it!! Imagine the fear, no escape!!!

Unless your writing from the distant future, you mustn't be serious.

a bullet with your name on it....

does your friend also know how these satellites are supposed to sniff in space vacume ? a feat the best trained dog couldn"t do...

With nanotechnology advancements I can imagine some kind of earth based terrordrone (like in red alert 2) in the future that will hunt you down...

Spy-satellites can see down to 5 centimeter resolution… any more in visible spectra is impossible because of air distortion... unless you use lasers and computers to measure the air turbulence and refine the image digitally. Even so DNA sequencing visually would need a resolution of under a nanometer and so far only the world best electron microscopes can see that close… from a distance of 2 cm away in a vacuum, not 500km and through atmosphere!

It's not really far off the mark, but DNA, no. The military is testing a microchip that is attached to the arm with adhesive-this was in popular science magazine a couple of years ago. The reason being they want to see how it will be affected by perspiration. With this technology no one will be able to hide! People under house arrest have an ankle bracelet attached to them so that authorities can track their movements via satellite. So, with the microchip that will undoubtedly use satellites for tracking, good luck hiding from anyone!

Maybe, just maybe, if they illuminated the object with an enormous gammabeam, they could get a very high resolution image of the object, problem is the gamma beam would probably kill the object in the process...

Perhaps laser assisted magnetic resonance imageing could be used (but from such distance?????)

Thanks for the link & the input. I felt the theory was 'way out there', but I also felt I needed more help in debuncking it, than just saying, "no way!".

Thanks you all!!

"Maybe" the highest resolution satelite imaging could allow for biometric identification, but dna would require some help from the vulcans or something to detect and read from such distances. And I suspect that the biometric ID'ing would have less than stellar accuracy.
